New Baby Birds
While trimming an Azalea bush at the house today, I heard peeping and found a very small birds nest within. These little cuties appear to be newborns. I immediately left the area hoping I hadn't scared momma bird away. She was back shortly after. I hope I can photograph their progress. What a great treat for me to find them!

What a great picture!!! You don't get the opportunity to get one like that very often. It's hard to tell how many babies are in the nest. I'm guessing four or five. From the color of the egg, I'm guessing they are robins.

Yes I would say Robins as well. Keep a close eye out for hawks. I've seen them destroy them a few times. Part of nature but heart braking to witness.

We have cat birds here where I work. Someone here identified them for me last year it was I think? While I was doing some work outside I was near one of the big evergreen bushes and I heard some peeping. Must be a nest in there. As I walked away one of the Cat birds buzzed me a few times and then flew into the bush. Guess I will stay away for a few more days....

Not a Robin
I've been watching the mother bird flying in and out of the nest. The nest is right below a window so I have a clear view. Definitely is not a robin. From an internet search, I'm pretty sure it's a crown sparrow. Very small bird and the nest is only 3 inches across. It has a brown capped head with black stripes from the eyes. But do they lay light blue eggs? Thanks.

Great shot! Having a few nests, and permanent guests in my yard, I love that they return every year, and I get to witness new generations

Today's picture of baby birds
Just took this picture of the babies. Looks like there are three in the nest. It's raining and they sure look cold. Momma bird has been sitting with them when she's not flying in and out to feed them. So cute!

Absolutely fantastic pictures. What amazes me, besides the cuteness of the babies, is the nest. I'm always fascinated at how well made most nest appear to be. Thank you for the wonderful view of their world.

Yes, they've flown out of the nest
bclaker, thanks for asking. This is the last shot I got of them (before they left the nest). The mother was being bothered by me wanting to take pictures so I backed off. When I went back to take pictures many days later, the little ones flew out of the nest, right at my face, scaring the heck out of me.
I was so upset. I thought I'd scared them out, thought they were to young to leave the nest. They (3 of them) were hopping around in the grass and the parents were chirping frantically away at them. I went on the other side of the yard and watched the mother and father fly down to them, repeadily, and teach them how to fly. They didn't end up back in the nest but made it into another bush for the night. Mother continued to bring them food. This afternoon all 3 baby birds were in the tree in my back yard, trying out their wings, flying from branch to branch. I'm so happy (you can not believe how much!) that they are okay and are going to make it! I learned a lesson from this. Leave mother nature alone! Don't get too close and interfere or scare them. |

Robins 0ne -- Barney Bear Zero
Last week, I placed small pieces of wood at a slant on top of my exterior electrical panel cabinets to keep robins from building a nest on them. Upon returning to East Bear Island this week, the robins had built a nest on the top step of a ladder which I had leaned on the adjacent wall. The ladder will remain undisturbed until the robin family is finished with it.

Robins Like Ladders
We had the same thing happen a couple years ago at the cottage. The ladder was leaned against the outside wall under an overhang. Perfect, nice dry place for their nest. It was fun watching them hatch and grow up. Enjoy!
