I just spotted this restaurant at the Gunstock Inn, in the Dining Out 2012. We have not been here yet. Just thought that I would pass along the information.

This is at least the third restaurant at the Gunstock Inn in ten years. Are these failures due to location, less than stellar dining or poor advertising?

We got to the inn once a year for a meeting. It is out of the way. If I was feeling good I would call the whole inn "quaint" otherwise I would call it "dated". Plus the inn is small.

So for a restaurant to succeed there, they need to be their own destination, they can't count on drive by traffic, or inn patrons alone.

Looking at the website, it's hard to tell if they going for a fine dining feel or a pub.

I agree the inn needs 'sprucing up'. They have a great function hall next door with a gazebo with a great lake view. A great spot for a wedding reception.

The Inn has a long history. In the beginning it was called the 'Barracks' in the late 20's and 30's. There was a rope tow in the back, possibly the first ski tow in the area before Gunstock. When the recreation area was built, the barracks was used to housed the workers. At one time it was the club house for 'Gunstock Acres' association.

Four years ago, it was up for sale with about 24 acres.

The also have a great indoor olympic pool. Is that still open for membership?

Yes it is and it is a fantastic salt-water pool with excellent suana and workout facilities.
I frequent the Inn and you will not find nicer people anywhere like Richard and Maureen, their "bend over backwards to make their guest comfortable" attitude is refereshing. Unfortuanately the economy makes it tough on mom and pop business with old fashion values.
I believe the reasons for restaurants inability to make it there are 1. high cost of music and entertainment liscensing, so no entertainment. 2. Lack of advertisement. 3. Location
I have no involvement with the inn other than a member of their fitness and welness program and friend.

I think the only way a restaurant would make it here is if an already popular place were to relocate to this location. This is what happened when Nonni's italian restaurant moved into the restaurant space inside the Holiday Inn in Concord. They had an immediate following, based on their previous reputation in Hillsborough, NH.
