Would anyone know of a weather application other than The Weather Channel, that is effective for the lake area? I always used to use Duats but my medical is expired and I can no longer access the information. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Dan |

I stopped using the weather channel a while ago.. I like this one.. less advertising and the zoom tool let's you get in real tight... right down to the street level.. and it's free!
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/WxM...ation=USNH0261 Here's a screen capture I just took of Logan Airport.. and it will get even tighter than this sample.

At home I use the aforementioned Intellicast.
On my Droid, I use Accuweather. It will access your location and give you the weather based on GPS. It loads up quickly and gives a good depicition of radar. Access it many times during the day if weather is or could be an issue.

If anyone is an avid enthusiast for weather, Radarscope is a great app for just that...radar.

So, what's the consensus on boating conditions on the Lake today? Looks like storms coming in later today and throughout tomorrow?

For computer based I use both Intellicast and Weather Underground.
http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Wea...ation=USNH0121 http://classic.wunderground.com/cgi-...st?query=03246 Both have hourly forecasts with wind forecasts. On weather underground you can scroll down and see links to all of the personal weather stations in the area. Having a camp on Welch I often look at the station on Welch for current wind data. http://classic.wunderground.com/weat...p?ID=KNHGILFO9 On the Android phone I use Radar Now https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...YWRhcl9ub3ciXQ.. and Onguard Weather Alerts. Nice to hear that warning tone when a severe storm alert has just been issued. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...RoZXJhbGVydCJd |

How can you tell when they are going to be wrong? Today was fine, with rain just starting to move in at 4:30PM. There were hours of sunshine today with highs about 80. Those that planned the day by the forecast were shortchanged.

Weather underground has a great full screen radar site (and also an iPad app). Also, when the forecast is for scattered storms, I always check the radar and the hourly forecast in the morning. I recheck during the day too. Its amazing now fast the hourly forecast changes. You can usually tell about when the storms will arrive. For example, this morning around 9am, you could see that the storms were 7 or 8 hours away, and the hourly forecast was under 20 pct chance of rain until 4pm, so at that point, we knew we would have a lot of dry time for boating.
