That is John Cooks Chris Craft that stayed at Sandy Point, at "The Penthouse". He was quite a man. WE called him MISTER Cook.

Looks like it just came out of the showroom. In the back is the legendary Green Wink, which is said to be somewhere local in disrepair. Who knows? High water for sure.

Unfortunately all the movies & most of the pictures were back in CT in John Cooke's den. The "charming" executrix of his will wouldn't let any of his friends near any of them. The only pics I found were posted in this thread. They were in among the boat owner's manuals in the Penthouse & I found them while cleaning out the place. What disturbed me was hearing that 4 dumpster loads of his belongings were disposed of from the house in CT. Too bad there was no family to save some of the memories.

Maybe 1300 miles round trip, about 15 miles per gallon coming back towing (probably needs bearings and tires by the look of it). Say 90 gallons of gas, $360. Night in a hotel. Lot better than Las Vegas. I'll bet it ends up in New England.
From Findlocalweater.com: The straight line distance between Laconia and Vermilion is approximately 572 miles or 920 kilometers |

Off to the landfill? The final resting place of so many classic boats......
I didn't know about this book, sounds like an interesting read: The greatest legend in the history of offshore powerboats, Don Aronow is brought to vivid life in this intimate account of his amazing life. Formula, Donzi, Magnum, Squadron XII, USA Racing Team, and the most famous name in the world of high-performance boating, Cigarette, were all Don Aronow originals. His unparalleled accomplishments in the world of powerboating are insightfully described by the one who was with him nearly every step of the way — his oldest son, Michael Aronow. |

Only about 5 months to ice out. The Lakes Region Waterski Boat Classic is on the Laconia Parks Commission agenda Monday December 17th. The plan is to have the event in August at Opechee Park again. If anyone is interested in helping to organize or share ideas please pm me. Thanks and have a good holiday.
PS. My Magnum on Halloween weekend in 1987. Owned by a hockey player on one of the islands near Glendale in the late 70's/early 80's. It might be at one of the islands east of Sandy Island and Long Island. That boat was fun to drive, especially headed into the wind with a little bit of chop. CVS scans and puts pics on a disc, worked quite well. Last edited by mowtorman; 11-21-2012 at 06:48 PM. |

Reminds me of why we head out on the water. Won't be long now.
Found a nice picture of a Molinari tunnel hull, Italian designer who had great success with his designs in the 60's'. Next Lakes Region Waterski Boat Classic will be on Sat. Aug. 10th 2013 from 10 to 5 at the point area of Opechee Park. More details over time. Happy holidays to all. Last edited by mowtorman; 12-17-2012 at 08:47 PM. |

This was not mine, it was listed for sale a while ago. I have the twin to this boat in Laconia and the same vintage 140 but it doesn't look like that !! I thought I had a pic see if I can find it. Here's a nice summary of the early origins of tunnel boats:
http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...s-tunnel-hulls Stay tuned for more event info. Please pm me with any suggestions and ideas for the event. |
