Like I said, it's a 15-year old pickup that's a gas guzzler and still needs work to pass inspection, so no, I haven't registered it; but it's a full-sized pickup with a big, tall fiberglass cap so it gets used as a storage shed for a sno-blower, pressure washer, step ladder, snow shovels and a large old Panasonic tv that is loaded with sentimental value, plus some other bulky items!
It actually makes a terrific storage shed.

Most Lake region towns have an ordinance for the amount of unregistered vehicles that you have on your property. You also have to get a license to have a Junk Yard.
Just saying

If you turn in your registration before it expires the town will prorate the amount of time you use the plates and refund you the amount of the time you did not use it? I ask a couple of years ago and they did.

I did in fact try just that and was told "sorry-no" by the town clerk's office because of some specific additional application for this refund procedure that I could not satisfy. Sorry, cannot recall exactly what that was?

My birth month is September and back in the day I would put my motorcycle in storage October 1st. Then register it in the spring and only have to pay for the summer months. At some point along the way...that changed and they started charging back to the previous September.....so now I keep my Bike out until November 1st...then ship it to the Florida house for the winter.

I was just told yesterday that the six month registrations that used to be available for cars & pickups are no longer available.

If the vehicle is over 25 years old, you are elgible for antique plates.
You may qualify the truck as a farm vehicle. You can get away with inspection!

Les, you can always raise chickens for egg money and use the front of the truck for their home while still having the storage space in back.

Farm vehicle need not be inspected. The family has a working sheep farm and we have farm trucks.
I friend of mine has a mini vineyard and she has a truck registered as agriculture. I beleive you need an agricultural business and register the vehicle with the business. I'm not sure but I will check in.

No vehicle needs to be inspected if it stays on the farm or any private property.

Correct, but there are hardly any completely self contained farms (if that's the right word), but you know what i mean, and farm vehicles often travel on public roads to get from field to field.

Oh yeah that I realized anybody can keep any vehicle on their own private property and not register it. I just assumed these folks were talking about driving them on public roads.
