Today is the first official day of summer, the longest day and shortest night of the year, the date when the Sun rises at its most northeasterly point along the horizon, is highest in the sky at mid-day, and sets at its most northwesterly point. The word “solstice” means, “Sun standing still.”

For me 6/21/13 is special for the start of summer, and my wedding anniversary. Can't wait to get to the lake this evening. Nothing beats being on the Big Lake in the summer, watching the sunset with the ones that bring you the most love and joy.

My son's wedding was on yesterday's Summer Solstice at Church Landing. My wife and I were also married on nearly the same day (June 19) 37 years ago.
