Default Caution today

I think after last nights storm, which was quite impressive from Rattlesnake Island, we should all be cautious on the lake today. There are likely to be lots of things floating in the lake. My deck chairs were all washed/blown off of my deck and I had to fish them out of the water this morning.

Let's pray for sun!

Pretty impressive rainfall. We were just about to leave Sleepers when the sky opened up. No pollen left on the boats now!! Decks are all nice and clean too!

Default Once Again...

It was wicked intense! Magnificent even. Very vivid orangey lightening followed immediately by super loud KABOOMs! I was very surprised and happy that we didn't lose power.

Will tonight be another whopper?

JMR. If you haven't already, you should write your lot number and island on your chairs or at least put your telephone number. A good thing to do on life vests, toys and floats too.

This picture of the storm rolling down The Broads doesn't do it justice!

The pot of gold must have been on Parker Island!

An unsettled weather pattern this week means afternoon/evening thunder storms are likely. The storm last night dropped the temperatures and humidity nicely.

This was the scene on Barndoor... The worst of the lightning/rain stayed a little NW. Amazing how well a breakwater protects a boat.

Most of you won't care because it isn't the big lake but those storms of late Sunday afternoon were some of the worst I have ever seen in 40 plus years on Sebago. Our island got slammed hard with numerous trees down snapping a utility pole and a structure fire ignited by lightning. An awful situation on an island.

BT what is the situation out the on Frye Island for Firefighting equipment...
and how accommodating is the Ferry service when it comes to getting utility crews out to the island during off hours?

Great video! Something about thunderstorms - I always wish I was up in Tuftonboro to watch and not here in MA. 2 more days...

The island is larger than it looks and larger than most people think. There is a road system and a seasonal water system.(no hydrants) We have a small dedicated volunteer Fire Dept operating two fire trucks and a small utility vehicle. The ferry service ceases normal operations in the case of a fire and does nothing but transport emergency vehicles such as the mutual aid companies that came over for this event from Raymond.
Being an island, we are one of the last priorities for power repair. CMP showed up the next morning to replace the pole.

We seceded from Standish and became Maine's newest town (at that time) in 1998.

I think it worked out well for us. A lot of growing pains in the first decade and there are those that still say we should have left things alone.

I wonder if this fishing thread has a pciture of the ACTUAL cloud to ground lightning strike that caused this structure fire?

I paddled around the island today and discovered storm damage of the southern end if Rattlesnake Island.

Same tree, different view.

This is not just a bush, but another tree near the first one.

In addition to tree damage, the dock got hit. Hopefully, it will be reasonable to fix.

More tree damage.

Overall lucky that camps/cottages don't seem to be affected.
(Not the clearest pictures because my iPhone was in the DiCAPac)
