Replacing double hung windows

I'd like to replace my wooden double hung windows(40 yrs) on my place. These windows mounted "on" the TX111. I've looked at Jeld-Wen double hung vinyl clad and they have two types. One with a wing, assuming for new construction and one without the wing. Does the one without the wing mount "on" the TX111 like the older one did. I thought about cutting the TX111 and put the one with the wing but would have to put a board to cover. Don't know if I would like the look. Any ideas.

The ones with the flange are for new construction only. The "replacement" ones simply replace the existing window sashes and existing "tracks". There is a bit more to it than that, but is is a very simple operation, I even replaced one myself a year or so ago.

Are you sure about how that old window is attached? If the old ones were mounted "on" the t-111 why would you have to cut the t-111? Many older windows simply had the outside trim attached to the window in the factory. They were just set in from the outside and secured. The new flanged window is set in the same way but needs trim installed.

I get all of my windows from A&B lumber.
I always get Bonneville brand.
They do have to be ordered.

Be forewarned. Most retailers will attempt to steer you toward the window brand that they make the most profit on. Not necessarely the best window for you.

ALL window manufacturers make/sell/market various types and grades.
Vinyl. Wood. Aluminum clad. Most with different grades/qualities.

Most have different types of installation. Some with trim attached. Some with a flange to screw/nail in. Some with no flange/trim.

Got to do your homework as to exactly what you require.

I get double pain.

The only window that has failed me in many years was a large Brosco (not Bonneville) picture window. The seal failed. Fog inside double pain.

Bonneville has a large catalog of window styles and sizes. Bonneville charges 10% more for a non-catalog size. Most manufactures offer same for older homes that may not have a standard size.

Make sure to speak with the person that actually knows the product. Not all do.

I had these replacement windows installed 10+ years ago. Totally pleased with them.

Again, most brands (not all) offer different grades.

If you are thinking long term - then spend the money on the better window.

Over the years/decades I have been in homes where folks cheaped out for low cost windows. All have/had one problem or another. Even Andersen makes different types/grades.

It must have been a couple of years ago you got your windows. They ARE bankrupt. The building is falling apart, the roof is falling in. They sold much of their equipment to Lepage. I was very surprised when you said they weren't. I am surprised their web page is still up. I talked to the LePage Rep. today to make sure they weren't back in business.
