Winter mini Forum Fest
I'm planning on coming up from NJ for that weekend. If a specific time is designated for meeting at Riverat's bob house maybe we can have a gathering of Forum members. Several years back we tried to plan meeting for lunch at Shibley's, but the weather didn't cooperate. Is there a breakfast planned that day at the Masonic Hall? We'll have to check with Uppie.

I am located right next to the gazebo/airport and within walking distance to shibley's, bathrooms and store. will have plenty of hot beverage, coffee, tea or cocoa, and a big pot of something cooking. kick this around and see what everyone thinks.

We will be at the winter carnival. Entering the chowder competition. My wife is also decorating our bob house. Madigras theme so swing in for a "real" drink. We are also competing in the bed race. Looks like I'll be to busy to fish! Should be fun though...come by and say hi.

River Rat
I am just up past you. About 30 yds. Past the bandstand. Popup camper conversion w/ wood sides. Sign on shack says "surrounded by iceholes". How is the fishing been for you? We have been slow. Hoping things pick up after all this activity on the ice stops. Pops |

Just got back from a visit to the bay, drove on and off with my little rear wheel drive ranger. Paul and crew are hard at work on the runway, it looks to be tough plowing but they're gaining on it. Roger Sample is doing a great job on plowing the winter carnival areas also, and looks to be a plowed road up to sandy point.

Looks like a great day for the carnival. Hopefully they got the same miniscule dusting of snow we got here on the south end of the lake.

It is!
Went down to the winter carnival and the helicopter landed for the first time as soon as we got there. Took one of the first rides on it and the pilot did an excellent job with all the wind. Great time all around! Rides until 3 pm.
Asked and answered. |

The wind made it a bit cold but it looked like everyone was enjoying the fun. Quite a few planes landed while I was there.

It was great to meet some forum friends today at the winter carnival, all in all a greatday. Got to the bobhouses at 7AM and the wind was a whipping, and with temps in the mid teens it stung the cheeks pretty good but I have to applaud the Alton Business association and all the sponsors for a fantastic day. I watched them struggle with setting up tents in the relentless wind and cold temps. Luckily (for medicinal purposes only) I had a bottle of dr. mcgillicuddy root beer licquer, it came in handy. Good time enjoyed by all.

And the answer is.... glad you had a good time ADL... And for the record, we don't mind the noise...and are proud to have part of the D Trail run behind our house...not problem with the noise there...except I'm jealous I don't have a machine to join them.

We had a prior commitment in Portsmouth today so couldn't attend, much to our dismay. But, driving back on Rt. 11 in Rochester at about 5PM, I see a truck coming at us in the opposite lane, a strange contraption sticking over the cab,
As if flies by, I see it is a logo of a clam, with "Pops Clam Shack" emblazoned on it. At the same time, I hear my wife exclaim, "that was a bed!". I'm sure someone will post pictures. |

Clock on helicopter broken
Drove up from NJ today and just caught the tail end of the Winter Carnival. The helicopter was still taking off after 3:30. Amazing, that wind was wicked. At 4 pm I was visiting friends on Rand Hill Road and the helicopter was heard overhead. On my way out I saw several snow mobiles heading towards Uppies on the D trail where it crosses Rand Hill Rd just before 5 p.m. The one thing that surprised me was that we have more snow in NJ right now than in Alton. My backyard is more than waist deep and even worse where it drifted. 56" of snow have fallen since mid-January and it's been too cold to melt much of it.

Welcome back up, GH...
Yup, almost 430 before the copter stopped flying.
A lot of traffic on the trail this afternoon, mostly of groups of 4 or 5.. Nice to see. Hope you have a nice stay... BTW, you may want to call the Art Place...may still have some Peter Ferber stuff left over from the Show this weekend. See you sometime...

I was just curious, does anyone know why the helicopter made a couple landings at the clearing on the hill at the ABCCC. It would lift off and land there and than after couple minutes comeback to land on the bay.

I heard someone say that they were going up there to refuel from a truck instead of going to Laconia, but that answer is third hand.

Seems there may have been a few professional photographer on the ice Sunday. Any idea where one could view their images?
Overall a great day on the ice. |

I know that the Baysider had a reporter there with a camera and he took a helicopter ride. It should have some pictures.

Here is an excellent photographer here in Alton and he attends all special outings in the town and I'm sure he was there taking all the activities and you will find a great selection.

Matt did take a copter ride, showed me some of the photos. He takes lots of photos and usually manages to get a good one of the bed race finish.
