Your reply should be asap !! Most marinas welcome the opportunity to get your boat out of the yard and into your slip and get the season started

I had a similar first thought too. I would think once the ice is no longer a threat for damage marinas would be thrilled to get season started.

I have seen some winters that area never freeze because of the river current. This year it is pretty solid to walk on.
Usually the marina would launch the boats as soon as the warn weather is here. There were springs my boat is ready to go, even when Paugus Bay is frozen. They pretty much jump the gun so that the marina can spend time getting other boats ready. I have taken the boat up to the dam and out to the bay to the ice just because I have that itch for boating! Maybe we can have a contest, who is the first to launch his boat and actually took a little cruise?

Most marinas will wait until the ice is gone, but also make sure that there are no more nights that the boat could freeze up. They are reluctant to put a boat in and run the motors because of the liability involved in a freeze up.
There is at least one marina on the lake that puts the boats in as soon as their marina is without ice. They do not start the boats but push them into their slips and go back and start them later when they know the cold nights have passed. Good plan! Avoids the spring rush! |

Wait till the threat of ice flows is past. While your boat may float, you don't want a your boat between a massive moving iceberg and where it wants to go.

Looks like "Salty Dog" and I are the only ones out there... Ha Ha... But, I'm with you Phantom !! Usually, April is acceptable... But this season will probably have to wait until early May to get the old "Shoots & Ladders" in !!

Though skeptical when I set the date to launch the boat, it looks like I will have no problem with May 3rd.

I can see Saunders bay over to Governor's Island from my house. There is LOTS of open water. Also, check out the "Snake Eyes" web cam. The ice is going alot quicker than I think anyone thought.

Well the Eleanor Rose is in the water and was started today about 1:00 PM. She is now owned by John & Sue of Nashua!
More later. ![]()

We decided to downsize and I was looking for a bowrider. Then I was out voted, sound familiar? So we went for a more typical cuddy layout in a 19'-21' with a V6 vs V8. Age was not a serious issue for us either but condition is. More on that later. ![]() ![]()
