Were there any "good deals" this year?

I saw a few boats that I liked - for the right price. But I was "informed" that since we were letting my sister use the Cabin for the first time this week I had a bit of work to do

just could not make it to the other side of the lake.

Thank you for reminding us of this event, it looks like fun.

"Dad Sold":

This was one of the best auctions ever in terms of the number and quality of boats. Years ago, there were boats in "restorable" condition, a group of loose boards on a trailer with a box of parts, so to speak. Nothing like that this year, although there could be in the future. The smalls (boat and camp accessories, paintings, etc.) were also very good, and good assortment. Not many items that didn't sell, although there will always be a few. So, were there any "good deals"? Everybody who bought something got a deal and went home happy. Go next year, buy something and you'll be happy, too. Happier than if you stay home to do chores, anyway.

(I know some folks who will do chores for you at a fair price. See some of the other threads on area services.)

I was amazed at some of the prices that very presentable wooden boats went for. I just wish I had a place to keep one, but I don't see a boat house in my future.

We did walk away with a pretty nice kayak, some duck decoys (to go with the theme of the furnished cottage we bought), and some chairs. I thought we'd get some wet weather sailing gear for small $$$, but it actually got bid up pretty high.

We'll be back next year. It's a good time.

This is the 15th year of the NHBM boat auction and probably one of the best years for the quality of boats and artifacts. There were some beautiful boats restored to like original condition. The 19' Chris Craft Capri was the highlight of the show. It sold with extreme competitive bidding. There were several gentlemen racers that went for 25 cents on the dollar. One guy told me he came to the auction just to look, see and dream. He never thought he would be taking home a perfect conditioned sport boat for under $2,000 worth at least $15,000. He said his wife told him to bid. He didn't but she raised his number. It was great fun.
Many people went home very happy with a new boat even though they had no intention to buying a boat before they arrived. The boats and the bidding prices were just that good they couldn't pass up.
Mark your calenders for next year. This auction is a fun filled day of great boats at unbelievable pricing. I still can't believe I got a Cape Dory Typhoon classic sailboat with 4 HP Mercury engine, sails, full cabin bunk cushions, and ready to sail for $250.00. Fay's sold the same boat for $20,000 restored. I sailed it everyday after the auction last summer. I restored it over the Winter.
