The dock was in need of repair or replacement of the surface, lots of checking and splinters for the grandkids to run into. Can't afford to replace with composite so looked into this heavy duty paints (like Rhino Shield) but wanted to apply myself. Many of these paints are referred to as 3X or 10X which stands for their thickness compared to regular paint. Rustoleum makes one as well as Olympic and others. After reading all the reviews we have decided to stay away, far away. Really had problems staying down on decking maybe due to moisture under. Decided to go with outdoor carpet for now.

I think you're referring to Deck Restore. I doubt it is the same thing.
I used it on my deck which had splitter and checking issues. We're two years in now and I have to say that I am happy with the results. They claim that it will extend the life of a deck by 7 years. One thing is that it is hot in direct sun. Before and after: |

I was told if you do a really good job of cleaning (like in your picture) using cleaning solvents then the Restore takes. But since this is on the dock the most I will do is pressure wash with plain water. Because of that and with the moisture from the water underneath it won't work for me.

I cleaned that deck with straight water and my pressure washer.
Took 2 layers of solid stain off. No need for anything else. |
