It's kind of hard to say when ice in actually is anyway because the bays usually freeze over first, usually skimmed along the edges at least by Thanksgiving and it is usually the 3rd week of Jan before the broads are iced in. So if you are talking about total ice in, it is not usually until that 3rd week in Jan.

Not at all. On the Home Page of the site, in the left column under "Articles - Information", the first link is "Ice-Out Page".

Amazing how the mind/eye works sometimes. I knew I had seen the link in this area. I looked there. But in my minds eye, it was at the bottom of the links list. I looked there and never saw it...at the TOP!

DUHH!!!

Default No early ice-in for 2014

Those that were thinking it would be an early ice-in can forget it. It was looking real good, but the rainstorm this week took it all away. The forecast calls for warmer than normal till Christmas, so we are back on track for a normal to new-normal (ie, January) ice-in for the parts of the lake that freeze first.

Default Define "Ice In"...

We all know when Ice Out is. And Emerson makes the call.

So when is Ice IN? We have some options to choose from.

How about when the Mount can't make her run due to ice? How about when the island folks (and this hits close to home for me) can't make it to their places. That one is kind of hard to figure. How about when the islanders can make it to their places over the ice. Again, hard to figure.

My personal favorite is when all of the public ramps are closed due to ice. This can come and go due to weather daily though. Remember I said ice, not snow.

Last week I used my snow blower to clear and sand the ramp at Center Harbor so that I could pull the old Misty. I should have waited. I could have still made it!
