I brought a couple of NH registered watercraft to Florida for the winter. I mailed the renewals in last week as soon as they arrived. I would hate to be ready to go out on the water right after the first of the year (on an 80 degree cloudless, calm day) and have both be unregistered. Man, that would be bad!

Can I get me some sympathy here?

Sympathy(?).....In Florida......For the winter.....off line I'll bet most are mumbling that you sun burn your big toe.

Kidding

If anything, keep copies of what ever paper work that might help you prove you have paid your renewal and the sticker is in the mail. Even showing this thread could help explain a late registration, if the officer is understanding.

Not to start a war here, even though the local gov. is in a non boating area due to its season, shouldn't they be prepared for any type of expiring registration at the time it becomes illegitimate and not when the season becomes active. Honestly I've never thought about until TiltonBB's scenario has become a real time issue. The current system may need a little tweek in order to keep the boating community legit if boating out of state.

Have fun in FL
Ps. Protect those toes.

The system works fine. I received my NH paperwork a couple weeks back and dropped it in the mail the next day. The sticker and registration showed up last week. No problem.

Not trying to be a jerk but why would one give your money to somebody to hold for 4 months?

Well, you may wish to use your boat sooner.

Or, if you did the math, an average registration fee might be about $100. I would rather get it out of the way now than worry the 33 cents in interest I might get for the next four months at the 1% rate banks are paying today.

Here we go again ??? I don't understand how some have their paperwork already and I have not seen anything in the mail as of yet. I don't get why they cannot mail the stuff to every boat owner at the same time...or am I the victim of snail mail AGAIN ???? Anyone else in the same "boat" ??

I don't understand why you can't submit your gas tax rebate whenever you wish. They don't have to work on it until they are ready. In past years I have sent it in before the start of the new year and they have mailed it back to me with a note telling me I submitted it too early.

Maybe it is just me, but what private business would operate like this? Wouldn't it be easier, and less expensive, for the state to just put it on a shelf for later processing rather than spend the time and money for the envelope and postage to send it back?

Default Boat Registrations

What's the rush??
Can't use them for at least 4 months.
I wish they didn't send them out until April.
