Water Temp?

Is there a link somewhere on the Forum that monitors lake water temperature?

Did some research and found this link from the 'National Weather Service'

This is the report for today May 28, 2015 and inidcates the water temp at 46 degrees? Can that be right?

Surface temp this past Monday was in the low 50's pretty much everywhere. I would assume with this warm weather it is now in the upper 50's.

According to Lakeport Dam the water temp at Lakeport is 62 degrees today.

527-0071 is the recorded phone line which will give you water levels, dam flow, precipitation for last 24 hours and water temp.

Here is a link to the chart, not as updated as the recorded phone line, but still useful.

So one has to wonder how NOAA can be so far off in their daily projections?
I'll beleive local folks before some government agency !

There's also the factor where on the lake the water temp. is being taken, and at what depth I suppose.

Lakeport measures at 1' and it's the southern most part of the lake. Not sure what depth NOAA's readings are at, some measure 10' below surface, but their numbers still don't jive.
My readings are usually within a degree of Lakeport, I'm on the north end of Paugus.

At Black Cat Island, the mini-"weather station" there reports at: http://blackcatnh.com/, giving pic looking downlake, water temp at 2' and 10', air temp, dew point, wind speed, etc. The data shown appear to be updated every few minutes.

Currently it reports 62.2 F at 2', 56.1 F at 10'.

On Memorial Day, the water temperature at East Bear Island was 50 degrees at -2 feet. Folks were tubing all weekend. Brrrrrrr!!!

When we were out in the broads on Mem. Weekend our boat read 46. BRRR is right.

and if the water is 62, I'd be shocked. I can barely keep my feet in at the beach for more than a few minutes. It's still pretty cold.

60.1 today on the broads....my transducer is about 1 foot below the surface.

I could hardly put my feet in the water also and I mentioned how it had warmed up and then gotten cold again. Now I think it has warmed up again. Those 80degree days warm it up fast.

It sure seems like the lake has been even more empty of boats and boaters so far this year than previous years. It has been extremely empty of boats all around FL-3, except for last Saturday and Sunday.

Sailing alone in a small sailboat, about 11'10" long, and getting flipped into the cold water is not a happy prospect. While I have waded out to neck deep cold water maybe ten times in the past two weeks, getting tossed out of a flipped over sailboat could be a serious problem, so's I am waiting till the water temp gets up to 60-degrees before sailing alone. Hopefully, will give it a go today or tomorrow or the next day?

Somewhere, I recall reading that the trainees trying to get into the Navy Seals have to endure swimming in a 50-degree swim pool at a Navy facility in Michigan.

Hello winter ..... goodbye summer.....the water temp has started to drop going from a summer high of 76 down to 75 as of Aug 7......and probably cooler now on Aug 9 down to 74 ...... one year back in '98 or so, it got up to 80-degrees with some low water conditions....gotta love that cool water....no alligators to share the lake here in Winnipesaukee!
