Interesting thread. Thank you all. I always wondered why the Jct of Rt's 3 & 11 was called McIntyre Circle. So, now I know where the McIntyre name came from, but no idea why it was called a "Circle" when it was really a fork, at least in the 50's-60's. I believe the town/city line is Lakeshore Rd, so the main White Owl complex was in Gilford, and the lakeside cabins were in Laconia, right?

you are right Descant, although town lines might have been different back then
The Laconia side of the street is known as Lake Street (our address is known as Lake St)

I worked there one summer when I was 14 washing dishes. I was assigned to the pots and pans sink ….my own little cubicle. I remember that one of the owners was an elderly woman in a wheel chair and she used to yell at us kids to keep us moving : ))
I'll never forget the time that one of the dishwashers asked her to come across with a raise and she replied "I'll come across with a hickory stick" |

If I'm not mistaken, I was told by Maurice Poudrier, whose dad was the last to run the Wise Owl, there are only two buildings left. One is across from the Margate on Rte 3. The oldest-looking white building on Rte 3, and another building that was a cottage converted to year-round behind the fence in the mobile home park in the back of Shaw's. Maurice's dad insist on living in a certain cottage, thus the property was divided there. Sargent Park in back of Shaw's was once part of the Wise Owl Resort. I was told a couple of the 'streets' were part of the Wise Owl.
