My wife's '13 Outback has the oil light come on at 5000 miles as well.

I believe it is due to her hyperactive right foot!

Some of them come on a set milage intervals regardless of when you changed your oil. My WRX I have the option to turn it off but on my jeep every 3500 miles it comes on and you have to reset it, changing the oil does not reset it.

Check your manual to see if yours is like that. I forget off the top of my head how to reset it but in mine it is something stupid like you put your foot on the break then turn the car into the on position and click the gas pedal and then shut the car back off and it should reset.

Same type scenario to disable your seatbelt chime for those feeling adventurous

The manual says to check and add oil. I am more accustomed to a red "idiot" light that illuminates when you have bingo oil pressure. This "you are down a quart" light freaked me out the first time!

I understand that 2012-2014 models burn oil. They fixed it in 2015. Not serious enough for a recall and they are trying to keep it quiet but there is a problem.
