I'd like to set up a webcam or two on the Governor's Island channel and was wondering who you'd recommend to do it or if there are EASY instructions and camera recommendations available?

It's not hard depending on the location and accessibility. I like the Stardot (and a lot of sites around here seem to use them as well). I got mine from CaliforniaPC.com.
But you could also use something like a Dropcam (super simple to setup). Is it going indoors? Outdoors? How far from from your network and power will they be? Do you want live streaming, or just snapshots? |

The cameras would be outdoors with electric power available and either WiFi or Powerline network connection. Streaming would be best I think.

Did a search but came up pretty empty so I revived this thread...
I have several IP webcams I use for security at the lake. I have a laptop that I can remote into and look at each camera picture. But now I'm interested in recording the video from one of these cameras, maybe on a 4 hour loop or something like that. Can any one suggest free or cheap Windows s/w I could use with me current IP cameras? |

If your IP cameras are relatively recent and somewhat name-brand there is a good chance you could make them work with a Hikvision NVR (check Amazon). You can get some nice units for ~$300, but they will be grey-market, meaning you pretty much won't get ANY support after the sale, but they're cheap.
