Hunting for a bargain on Lake Winnipesaukee?

Built a condo cottage in New Seabury on Cape Cod in the 80's. Yes we owned the cottage which was part of a condo. Gave building to the YMCA and built new. Lots of fun and we actually made a few bucks after renting for 2 years.
We have renovated 8 kitchens over the years. No walk through estimates. At this point I can give an estimate by looking and knowing what someone wants for cabinets, floors, appliances.
Our last renovation with complete gutting was $78,000 which also included flooring in the laundry and adjoining powder room with new cherry vanity. Cherry wood cabinets with large crown moulding $25,000, construction $25,000 and appliances $28,000. New wiring plumbing and lighting fixtures included.

My best part of the kitchen is the warming drawer, induction cooktop, Sub-Zero fridge and double oven. Wine cooler is also a nice addition.

It's only money and I've never seen anyone take it with them. Well, maybe the guy wo was buried in his Corvette.

Seemed like a little bait and switch as the first two houses they looked at were on two other smaller lakes but the third one was on Winni and they selected that one. Great shots in the thirty minutes of the lake and a lot in Meredith

I caught the show last night by chance. Some great local footage of the lakes region.

Tough location to buy at, that house is right behind Gilford Yacht Club in the back of Smith Cove. Very tight area and lots of milfoil. No swimming in front of that house....

I am surprised they didn't look at any island properties, for the price range they were in they could have done well on an island. I guess its not for everyone.

I have a friend who did the same show up in VT, he was already finishing moving in/ living in his house when the show producers approached his realtor and him (his episode will be the last one of this season in a few weeks), they also asked him to lie about his listing price and his budget and then paraded him around to 2 other properties pretending to look at them. I believe you have to be in the process of closing if not already closed to be on the show. Still pretty cool to just be on it, I forgot to ask him how they compensate you for being on the show and how much it is.

I too have a friend who was on "House Hunter International" which is similar in format. It was done after they had already selected an apartment. The show removed all their furniture from their own apartment and put it in the hall for the filming. They were shown 2 new listings and their own.

If you enjoy watching these shows (as we do!) look for these clues next time...

1. One of the houses may come "furnished"... Hmmm... and "It's just our style hon!"

2. Notice when they end the show, (and fast forwarding to "two months later...") somehow the season hasn't changed... We saw a Lakefront Bargain Hunt episode in Upstate NY recently. When they were shopping for the house it was fall, the leaves had turned and most had fallen. Then "two months later..." guess what? Same leaves, same trees. They should have been ice skating "two months later..."!

3. It's amazing that the kids will be wearing the same clothes "two months later..."as they had on when their 'rents shopped for the house! I guess even with the cost of a "Bargain" house there's no money left for new clothes for Junior!

Nothing like good old "reality" TV!

You all act as if other TV shows are a true depiction of life as it really occurs. I can't name three shows that aren't scripted and news that isn't selectively edited.

Now I am confused.

I always thought that if you see on "reality TV" or you read it on the internet, then it absolutely must be true! This revelation that this may not be the case is totally upsetting to me.

Can never understand the fascination of dumping huge sums of money into kitchens. Is that not where the help is placed to do the cooking? Same with bathrooms that are larger than many bedrooms. After all no matter how much one spends, the toilet still flushes the same way.

I know what you mean. I too am often amazed that all of human kind does not value things exactly the same way I do. It's mind boggling!
