I agree, you should start with a hand auger. If you're just getting into the sport you'll appreciate learning the way the rest of did it. Don't go too cheap on the hand auger, go see Alan and he'll hook you up with a good unit. The newer style seraded(spell?) edges cut very well. You'll drill 30 18" holes a day on your own with a new hand auger with a good design; and still call it fun.
