And, such a deal, you save five dollars, the five dollar service fee, off the price of your boat registration, compared to what you pay at your local town hall, or local marina, when you process the paper work at this new MP-HQ.
Just park your car in a designated MP visitor parking space, walk in to their walk-in service window, and check out the new 10-million dollar building .... gimme five! ....what a deal! The new MP-HQ treats you like a champion, or something! ![]() Who knows .....maybe they can also raise some additional revenue by selling MP refrigerator magnets, MP bumper stickers, and MP coffee mugs....like, why k-not! ..... with pictures of different patrol boats and such? ...... people could spend the five they just saved on a small oval, bumper sticker pictured, patrol launch, or a coffee mug! And besides, purchasing an MP coffee mug or frig magnet, helps support the MP, and is a motivator to go there to register your boat. I want a coffee mug with a picture of a MP patrol boat on it.......!!!

All of New Hampshire should be proud of this new facility. With so many government dollars wasted on non-performing projects, this was a long time coming. As far as I am concerned the men and woman who protect and serve us on a daily basis are under paid and at least deserve a great facility to work in. I would be proud to show my friends who visit this state the building and the dedication New Hampshire puts into it's state! Congrats on a job well done!

I agree with the sentiment on the first responders but I do get a little queasy when a government building Is the nicest in an area. A little Stalinesque. My dumb question is, Can the public launch and park there? I assume the answer is yes. It is a spectacular building.

About maybe two years ago, the NH Fish & Game purchased the smallish Downing's Landing for 1-million dollars, located at the very southern most tip of Alton Bay which is the southern most point of Lake Winnipesaukee, and have made it a free to use, boat launch and trailer parking spot ...... free to anyone .... free to park .... free to launch.....no attendant is present. Understand the ramp dock is still very wobbly....and the parking lot gets filled up early and fast. Not sure about the launch ramp's, under water condition?
At the Gilford town docks, immediately close to the new MP-HQ building.....you need a Gilford town sticker (residents and property tax payers) to launch a boat or park your car. The MP-HQ does have a small number of designated visitor parking spots, close to the new building, for someone going inside to register a boat with the state....plus the MP charges five dollars less for your boat registration than at a local town hall, or local marina...... known locally as the 'Gimme Five Window!'

Look at those waterfront decks! Man, they should open a bar & restaurant there, with tables and umbrellas out on that nice deck. The State is already in the liquor business, so licensing would be a no-brainer. Dock space available at MP, as well as Glendale docks.
Seems like a win-win to me. And like FLL said, you can register your boat there as well. |

So's, if the Town of Gilford decides to raise its price on the metered sewerage that comes out the new MP-HQ building, then the State of NH can raise it price on the water released by the Lakeport Dam that's used to process the sewerage at the Franklin sewerage processing facility.
One hand washes the other ...... or something like that?

I think we get good value for our tax dollars. Although Marine Patrol makes proposals for what they need, they don't have direct access to funds for whatever they want. The Department of Administrative Services proposes a capital budget to the House Public Works Committee. They balance all capital (bonded) needs and submit this bill to the House, then to the Senate. In any given budget cycle, there may be $400MM in requests, and we can afford about $80MM. When that bill (HB25) passes, Admin Services puts things out to bid, not Safety or MP. When they have a suitable bid, it goes to the Executive Council for approval. There are a lot of watchful eyes in this process. Yes, some bureaucrats, but many elected officials too. You can fire them every two years. Since it's NH and we have 400 state reps, you could be one if you like.

Someone correct if I am wrong but...I thought that the previous Head of Marine patrol David Barrett, had the insight for the need of a new building in the near future and requested from the state and had imposed a small fee on all NH boat registrations. This fee over the years eventually added up and nearly covered the cost of the new building. Unfortunately this money was put into the "general" fund where it was raided and spent by our current Governor.
So is it true that Mr Barrett did in fact raise the funds for the new building so as not to hit the people of NH with an added tax burden?? Was this money placed in the General fund and then raided?? Thanks; Dan

Dave Barrett had over $3 million saved in the non-lapsing Navigation Safety Fund after saving for many years. Under house speaker Bill O'Brien the legislature passed a law making the fund lapsing, and moved the balance into the general fund.
Two years later the legislature reversed the actions of the previous and the Navigation Safety Fund is again non-lapsing. It will be the source for bond payments for the new building. Therefore, payments come from boat registration money only. No "tax payers" (unless they register a boat) are affected by the building. The building was badly needed and well deserved. For heaven sake the old one was sinking in the water and in need of much structural repair. The new building is a welcome addition to the area! Thank you Director Barrett and may you Rest In Peace! Dan

![]() ![]() http://www.concordmonitor.com/Farewe...litics-4347547 Concord Monitor, August 28, 2016: "Katy Burns: Buh-bye, Bill O'Brien" ...... Republican Majority Caucus unpaid $7800 office rent for Concord office ..... Considering what happened with the funding for the new MP-HQ building ..... it's very very good this new state building is almost completed, and will soon be occupied, and in use for what could be the next hundred years. It's looks to be a very attractive and functional new home for the NH Marine Patrol. Dave Barrett had a super plan! Such a great looking building, plus you save five dollars at the walk-in window compared to what you pay to register your boat at your local town hall, or marina, plus 100% of the registration money goes to the State of NH, as opposed to 50%-town and 50%-state. No five dollar service fee at the MP-HQ walk-in window.
