Default No channel 9

WMUR and DirecTV can't seem to reach agreement on a new contract, time to maybe try Dish TV.

Default Merrocast

went through that with WMUR a while ago. Even with the amount of money Metrocast makes on subscription, they still manage to milk money off the stations. Time to switch to WMTW out of Portland!

For the period of time while DirecTV & WMUR point fingers at each other, you can always stream on your phone or tablet.

Default Maine TV

Having only channels 6 and 13, both from Maine, I can tell you that when the weatherman expects rain @ 5PM and it's raining where you are, one can expect the local time to be 3PM. In other words our weather is about two hours earlier than theirs.

Yea, I'm really getting tired of this with direct, Were also down fox 25 and channel 5 Boston,5 Is same owners as WMUR I gather. All ready affecting my football viewing. Anyone canceled and demanded the fee be waved. I know they don't have to, but they made some big changes to the service.

It isn't just DirecTV. Metrocast went through the same thing a few years ago. Comcast ditto. Any subscription service has to pay the source for using their signal. DirecTV is trying to keep the cost down.
I can just imagine the uproar if DIRECTV said because WMUR wants more money if we are to carry them, so your bill is going up $2.37 per month to cover it. Oh, and we are in negotiations with ESPN family of networks, and that is going to cost you another $4.23 per month

The truth of who is trying to put it to who is somewhere in the middle of all you read about the talks. 😉

We've had Dish for 6 years. Good on screen guide, sports, news and movie rental options. Overall intuitive remote control and no regrets, outside of having to clean snow off a few times each winter.

I am a loyal direct TV person but this is ridiculous. Not only can I not watch the Giants on 9 or 25 but the Sunday Ticket channel for the game is blacked out trying to push me over to Chanel 25.

you're right, But I'm just going by the reputation these Providers have earned over the years, And my personal experience in dealing with them. It's never as easy as it sounds, but I'll still blame them.

Default Double dipping?

One thing I don't understand. Broadcast stations make money through ads. The bigger the number of viewers, the more the advertisers pay. That's why the viewer shares the station gets is so important, it determines revenue.

The ads are broadcast on cable or satellite transmissions of these stations so doesn't that increase their viewership and their ad penetration and their revenue from those ads, ads and content they are already broadcasting? It costs them nothing else to send it out on cable or satellite as well. I would think this extra ad revenue without added production cost would be lucrative. WHY are they trying to gouge even more money from subscription fees?

It feels like they are double dipping from ads AND subscriptions?

I agree Jeff, and when the FCC forced digital, which prevented most people from receiving off the air, it intensified this issue due to the lack of options.

On my Comcast bill:
"Broadcast TV Fee" going from $5 to $7 next month
"Regional Sports Fee" going from $3 to $5 next month
I called because I don't receive Broadcast, and to see what "Regional" Sports were. In both cases I was told that the fees being charged by sources (WMUR?) were going up and this was how they covered that increase without changing the price I pay for a particular package. Out of a bunch of channels in the package I watch only a few, but I'd have to give these up to get rid of those two fees.
I have DirecTV at camp and they are good about suspending service for the winter but I still pay for a month at either end when I'm not there, because the max suspension is 5 months.

I can't say I'm happy with either company, but I like Comcast better.

I dropped comcast a few years ago because they were, by far, the worst company I've ever dealt with, customer service was just a disaster. Since Direct has been bought by AT&T, I think? I've had problems in the house a few times, It's been difficult to say the least and communication has been awful.

All the providers stink doesn't matter who they are.

I got direct tv and for the most part they have been OK. I've certainly had worse.

Had no idea channel 9 wasn't available.... no loss they have nothing I want to watch anyways. If I saves me a buck or two good riddance.

Direct TV and I had our fights early on, mostly on billing issues. But now I am generally satisfied. Very few "storm" related outages.

And Maxum, you changed your avatar!

Default TV signal money war

It's no accident this is occurring in many locations around the US right NOW. It's NFL playoff season and both the broadcasters and distributors, cable and satellite and broadcaster, want the other side to panic and cave in. Satellite says they cut us off; broadcaster says you have "free" options and suggest you switch. I don't know who's lying but the mouths on both sides are moving.

Sit tight; don't switch. Neither side wants to lose the benefits of the other, but remember this -- they don't care how many subscribers they lose -- more are coming because "they" are unhappy with the other guy.

If you really want to make an impact: cancel, throw another log in the fire, pick up a book, and throw your bucks into your 401K each month. Money is the only language they know and green is the only color on the screen.

Too bad you don't have internet. They keep saying they stream through their web-site.

I bought the Roku Stick and cut the 'cord'. Only to find out Metrocast has a 350 GB limit to streaming. They don't just cut you off, they 'throttle' down the speed to the point the streaming videos are constantly buffering. This will happen before you hit the limit. No they won't cut you off at 350GB, but it is slow!

Greener pastures on the other side!

Had the same thought using sling box from home and metrocast at lake. Buffering all day. Now I use google cast thru wifi running apps on pad or phone. Works fine

Only use the net for local programming like the news. For network, go to another channel. The morning news may run for two hours but it's still a repeating 30 minute program.
