This a picture of my wife from yesterday morning at 6:30 AM. Our tradition is to hike Mt Major and have coffee at the top! A great way to start the New Year.
Happy New Year to all the forum members! |

Looks like a blast. I assume you used snowshoes?

Actually, the trail is so well travelled that we only need micro spikes, even breaking trail, those seem to work just fine!

Most winter hikers use microspikes on established trails. And the majority of those have orange Kahtoola brand spikes on:
http://kahtoola.com/product/microspikes/ There is a place for snowshoes like when breaking trail on 20" of new powder or off trail and deep snow. I will say that since getting microspikes several years ago, we have yet to put the snowshoes on. I wear Kahtoolas over Bugaboots: http://www.columbia.com/mens-bugaboo...t-1626251.html Great photo GBGX2 |

I love my kahtoola micro spikes. Would recommend them over any other brand. For snowshoes I really like my MSR Lightning Accents. The wife and I hiked the Balsams Resort ski hill and snowboarded down a couple weeks back and the snowshoes were a must! |

A coincidence, in as much as we own, use and love both the Kahtoola's and MSR's, they are great choices for winter hiking!
