I expect there will be a lot of pent up boat activity this weekend. Be careful out there. We pulled several large logs, a dock, and a large spool of fishing line out of Merrymeeting this morning. I'm sure Winni has a similar situation given the high water levels and storms of the past month.

Yes, an 5-foot length of fairly new, but broken-off dock piling, appeared today. Too heavy to lift until my family gets here, I tied it off to the shoreline to keep it from battering my dock. Unfortunately, today's heavy-boating activity caused it to slip its tether, so I don't know where it is right now. But it still could make a "return trip".


But fortunately, I was able to pull the waterlogged 4x6 "dock upright" before some boater came to grief with it. (Worse on calm nights).

Good on you for trying to remove a navigational hazard such as that.

I do take a little issue with the bolded statement above, as I would imagine that the wind would have made some pretty decent waves out there yesterday.

Keep it coming! We are here this week on a fishing vacation and loving the weather so far! Thanks for trying to keep the lake safe from floaters. We are having are hands full avoiding the rocks!

Here, we get both waves and wakes; by far, wakes are the most destructive.

In keeping with this Winnipesaukee "floaters" thread, last week, I captured a third piece of heavy wood debris—a 2"x10"x8' plank.

"Repurposed" within a few feet—and placed upright—as in the photograph below, I expected it would be a good deflector of oversized boat wakes. Eventually, the weekend wakes that rebound from shoreline rocks to soak the dock were still able to splash over-and-under that 10-inch board.

(Also rebounding through dock boards not affected by the rocky shoreline).
