They have had the PWC's for a long time.... they use them in places like Braun to get into the shallow water to write the tickets!

Red arrow is the "Sand Bar Area" ........ It has been a No Rafting Zone for years and periodically MP puts a full court press on to remind everyone of that ....... Same situation as FL#75 (West Alton) sandbar ........ which inevitably simply drives even more boats over to Patrician shores, making that spot ridiculous now too !

I heard marine patrol has four new PWC's this year. They are primarily used to patrol popular rafting areas of the lake. Two are used undercover and the the other two have uniformed officers.
![]() ![]() I was there Saturday and saw them moving boats that were within 75' of shore and they made boats untie if there were more than two boats rafting together. Does anyone know if marine patrol uses drones to spy ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

Tis..
Braun Bay rules have a 75' from shore minimum... 25' between boats (single) 50' between boats (rafted). there can be no more than 2 boats tied together in Braun Bay NRZ. The NHMP will write tickets for any of these infractions.... Woodsy

I saw the MP checking up at the sandbar at Smalls Cove two weeks ago, also using a jet ski. Someone got a ticket or written warning for being too close to shore and had to move. They didn't seem to check boats that were closer to each other than 25 ft but seemed more interested in the ones that were too close to shore at the time.

5) Braun Bay, at a distance less than 75 feet from shore, to be delineated by marine patrol with orange mooring balls;
hmmm - technicality to get out of the ticket: there are white spar markers not orange mooring balls there, according to this one could argue that Marine patrol did not properly delineate therefore there is no way of knowing if you were breaking the rule or not

Tis...
What Siksukr said..... Braun Bay is the only NRZ that has a distance from shore requirement. Not sure why that is? The people of NH own to the high water mark, so in all of the other NRZ's you can go as shallow as you dare. Woodsy

Even though I was the first one to anchor that day, I was asked to move in Advent Cove last year for being too close to the shore. I didn't think that was the rule for Advent Cove, but I was in no position to argue with the marine patrol. I was also told I had to be 50 feet from the next adjacent boat. That doesn't seem to be a rule as well for that cove.

I think tis is correct - unless it's Braun Bay, all other no-rafting zones have a requirement to anchor 150' or more from shore:
PART Saf-C 407 RAFTING RULES Saf-C 407.01 Rafting Rules. (a) In addition to and in conjunction with the requirements of RSA 270:44, no person, except as otherwise provided herein, shall, in a prohibited location or at a prohibited time: (1) Form or allow a boat which he or she is operating or in charge of to be a member of a raft consisting of 3 or more boats; (2) Form or allow the boat which he or she is operating or in charge of to be a member of a raft if any part of such raft is: a. Less than 150 feet from shore; b. Less than 50 feet from any other raft; or c. Less than 50 feet from any occupied single boat which is stationary upon the waters of the same lake or pond; and (3) Anchor a single boat and cause it to remain stationary upon the waters of a lake or pond, other than momentarily, if any part of such boat is: a. Less than 150 feet from shore; b. Less than 50 feet away from any raft; or c. Less than 25 feet away from any other single boat which is stationary upon the waters of such lake or pond. |

Thank you, SP for posting that so I didn't have to. So now, back to why Braun Bay is only 75' while the other rafting areas are 150' away from shore. Hill country: Maybe?

We were in the bay and had as many as 7 boats rafted together. MP came in and wrote us all tickets for the violation. I think the fine was $36.75 for each boat. What's the current tariff for having too much fun together with your boating friends?

Wait a minute. As I read that again, I understand it to be not less than 150 when rafted to another boat so I see it as ok to be closer with one.

Want to see a lot of boats? Go To Worlds' End in Hull. All kinds of fun. Especially when the new-bies anchor on the sandbar...that wasn't there at High Tide...HEHE

I've been to Worlds' End in Hull several times, you're right "all kinds of fun" !!! My brother kept his 33 Cruisers', with twin 450's, docked at the Newton yacht club, and had to drive up the Charles River, through the locks at the Museum of Science, just to get into Boston Harbor, then then a sprint over to 'World's End'. I can't imagine his gas bill back and forth... Yikes ! ![]() |

Time for the boaters on the lake to organize and lobby to abolish the rafting rules on the lake. Boaters spend more $$$ on this public lake than the crybaby land owners. All in favor of reasonable rules for rafting, but these current restrictions are rediculous!!!

As far your contention that boaters spend more money on the lake than land owners: Not even close. The average tax bill for property owners on the lake is $20,000 to $40,000 and most property owners use no town services. Just the property tax bill alone is substantially more than what is spent by the majority of boat owners. Also, most property owners on the lake have at least one boat, and many have several boats so they are spending money there too. Most weekend boaters or non property owners have only one boat so they contribute less in registration fees and maintenance costs than multiple boat owners. That spending also supports the local economy. |

There are 424 Reps and Senators in NH. One of them is either a neighbor or a relative. Call yours and suggest better rules. Be specific, not just "we need better rules". Be quick. The bill filing period for 2018 ends in mid-September. Contact info is on www.NH.gov.

Sure, I will help you understand. The MPs are there because we call them, and no they do not need to spy! Believe it or not there are actual people living around Braun Bay and trying to coexist with the animal like behavior a few of you display as well as the rubbish and beer cans that get blown into our docks. So it is the homeowners who promptly dispatch MPs.
Somewhere along the line many of you missed a simple point that just because something is allowed or takes effort to enforce, it may still be a bad idea. For example: assuming that the person next to you is interested in listening to your music. Perhaps, someone prefers to read a book in quite while you are getting loaded with beer with your friends. It is called common courtesy! There is a reason why more and more areas and sand bars around the lake are being regulated and I am certain Braun Bay will go that course in due time. Meanwhile, a few sane visitors could exercise some self regulation by mentioning to the boat near by to keep the music below party levels. There are many boats anchored in the Bay on weekends, however only two or three feel the need to blast their music! Last edited by Justmee; 08-08-2017 at 08:36 AM. |

Welcome to the Forum.
I'm sorry, bu it sounds like you bought Winni property with your eyes wide shut. It is Braun Bay, not Brown. In today's expanding market, I'm sure you can resell and get your money back, including Realtor fees. Braun Bay is a widely, if not nationally known, party sandbar. Inflate your inner tube/raft and paddle on over. These are nice folks and you may actually enjoy them. Talk to some of your neighbors who have been there awhile. I think you'll find you've bought in a nice protected cove with some busy times a few hours on weekends. (I have a great island place with a beautiful view. All my guests marvel. I hardly see it after my second cup of morning coffee or my evening cocktail. Too busy enjoying the lake and my grandchildren. |
