I am in the insurance industry and I have found Amica to be high in NH yes. Now that being said there are so many variables in insurance so what is high for 1 person may be much lower for another person.

It seems as though buying insurance is a lot like buying a mattress!

Variables including your driving history (and the history of all listed persons on the policy), year/make/model of vehicle, and don't forget this one...your credit history.

When choosing an insurance company, it's important to consider not just the annual premium but (even more important in my opinion) the company's claims handling reputation. An insurance policy with a low premium is no bargain if it is issued by a carrier that has a poor reputation for handling claims.
Also, with respect to auto insurance, a friend who had a career in the insurance business has told me that some insurance carriers who advertise low annual premiums will not pay for replacement parts made by the car's original manufacture, but will only pay for aftermarket, or in some cases even used, replacement parts for collision repairs. So, make sure you read your policy.

Insurance policies generally only pay for manufacture replacement parts when an additional premium applies. Having said that I have Manufacture replacement parts on my cars, high value cars. The premium with AMICA is $950.00 for the SL. Very high coverage for my situation.

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions! We have had insurance coverage through a local agency since 1998. It was a family run agency, but changed names 3 times since 1998.
I always felt they shopped around to provide us with the best coverage for our home and within the past 1-2 years, we added auto and watercraft policies. I don't recall that we have ever submitted a claim through them until recently. They will not be paying the claim based on an understanding of our homeowners coverage I had with them in 2014. The company had undergone another name change and we moved here as our primary residence. The original people I talked to are no longer with the company. There is nothing in writing, no recorded phone calls, etc. As one poster noted, a company is only as good as in the manner they process claims. Thank you again for all of your recommendations. I will research the most promising ones. We'd like to go with a company who has a great reputation and one that will revisit potential policy changes with us to ensure we make the best selections for our situation especially when they have a name and personnel changes. |
