Jack Irwin sent me a DVD of a film he is in as a boy. Great old material of people, events, boats and much more from the late 1930's thru 1940-ish. About 18 minutes long.
Jack narrated it. Where he got it I do not know but it is great. Even has clips taken of the Weirs and the Old Mount the day after it burned in 1939. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLLW...ature=youtu.be |

Wonderful to see how the "new" Mt. Washington was built and launched. Particularly nice is the narration.

This is a gem!! Probably the best piece I've watched in all my years here on the forum. What really makes this so special is Jacks narration.

Some more videos, not sure if these have been posted before
From Woody Boater Part 1 The Irwin Files - Classic Boat Footage From The late 1940's - 1950's Rare footage of Irwin Marine from the 1940's to the 1950's provided by Jim and Jack Irwin, many classic Chris Crafts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3gWUSrIO6k Part 2 Irwin Files Part 2 Classic boats, Chris Crafts More vintage boat footage from the 1940's and 1950's from Irwin Marine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrKIAHzvBAE Very interesting how they used the railroad back then to deliver these large heavy cruisers. Looks like but not show in (as a complete part of the film) that they came right off the flatbed car onto a raceway right into the water. |

Looks like the Irwins sold plenty of big boats back in the day. So much for large boats being a recent addition to the lake.
![]() Thanks for posting this, it's fun to see all those boats from the 40's and 50's when they were new.

Thanks for posting. I'm amazed at the quality of the film and photography, especially the footage taken from another boat. Not what we usually remember from the old 8mm days. And color!!
My family had a 30' CC Express with a factory custom hardtop, delivered new to us in April, 1950. We stored it at Irwin's in Lakeport for many years, so most of those boats are familiar. Lots of footage there of Jim Irwin Sr's boat, the "Take It Easy" a 42' double cabin Flybridge (DCFB). He had the factory skip the lower helm and put in a piano, then they built the rest of the boat. |

At the time you mentioned-16:49-it does look like a tug. However it's hard to see clearly but I'm hard pressed to believe it is the same one, simply because the one in the clip appears much bigger.
What it does look like is the massive tug Moultonboro, formerly known I believe as the Center Harbor. That vessel was legendary for her power and sheer size. See picture. The stack does it for me. |
