Hi I’m new here and have a question for those of you who know the lake. Is the water too shallow for boats and jet skis up by Melvin Village? I’m looking at renting a place just east of the marina but the Bizer chart doesn’t specify water depth. Also, is that area large enough for water sports or is it too rocky? Thanks!

Where it doesn't specify depth in blue it is 6 feet or less. There's a large area next to the marina that is very shallow but fine to get in and out of. I remember the first time I was out there, When I looked down it looked like 2 feet with an all rocky bottom.

I've not looked too closely, but since you can't be within 150' anyway, you'd probably be fine. There are some hazards in that area, though, so refer to a map.

I boat up that way usually a couple of times a summer, usually to Lee's Mills and Greens Basin.
Moultonborough Bay should be fine for any of the boating and/or jet ski activities. Hope this helps, Bill |

You need a chart and you need to be careful. Generally, the Moultonboro side of the bay is easier than the Melvin Village side.

Welcome to the Forum.
If you're renting a boat or jet ski the rental company would usually take you out and point out some local landmarks and places to avoid. |

As already mentioned, Melvin Village Bay is quite shallow whereas there is no problem going up all the way to Greens Basin as long as you read the chart and follow the markers. Stay out of the center of Moultonborough Bay between Lane's End and Wetherill Point. The area east of Melvin Village Marina is very shallow.
