I had a great prime rib at the Bob House and very reasonable. I also had a great one at the Woodshed too but that one was twice the price.

Prime Rib at George's s on Saturday nights is delicious. Sam (from the now closed Sam & Rosie's) is the chef that cooks the rib.

Prime Ribs
Just about every establishment boast the best prime ribs. You did not state where you are located so the sky the limit!
Good Prime ribs I found is at Avery's or O's in Lakeport. Across the lake I found Buckley's good and in Ossipee, Hobbs. Wolfeboro brings up O's bistro, Wolfe's Tavern and Club 59. In Gilford Lyon's Den and Schuster's Tavern. The best in NH, Hanover Chop House in ManchVegas.

George's experience
George's Diner lists prime rib under Nightly Specials/Saturday.
The potato and meat come out on a platter, upon which sits a small dish containing the vegetable. The vegetable was hot, the potato cold and the meat lukewarm. I sent it right back to be heated, and it came right back, hot (nuked?). No worry on that, I was hungry. The meat didn't have much for flavor and, really, wasn't rare as I'd ordered it. Maybe, for twenty dollars, I shouldn't complain. I followed the lead from here (Forum) and gave it a chance. I've had some good fish-fry there. |

The Past
In the past Tony Roux at Christmas Island Steakhouse had a great prime rib. Before sending it to the table he would char broil both side of your order before sending it the table. It was a great treat!

C.J. Avery's hands down is the best prime rib in the lakes rejoin. The Local Eatery was a close second but they only have it as a special, on occasion.

I know it has nothing to do with the NH lakes region but the best prime rid that I ever had was at the restaurant at Point Sebago many years ago. I remember they brought out the whole rib and cut yours off in front of you. Then the chef dunked it in 3 different pans of juices before putting it on your plate. I still have dreams about that prime rib! I've never had one that matched that since and at 64 I've had a lot of prime ribs.

Prime Rib
FROM WINNIPESAUKEE BOB
With over 55 years on the lake ... C J Avery's in Lakeport is "hands down" the best for both price and quality... and they offer 2 cuts....huge and huger. Have never had a bad meal there. |

Too bad Lawrence has declined so much. Used to be a safer place to visit.

Bishops
of Lawrence. Memories. Great food there!
I also remember another restaurant in downtown Methuen or was it Haverhill? In one of the old mill buildings near a rail overpass?

"Back in the day", late 60's, my father, who at that time worked in Methuen, would very occasionally take the family out to dinner either to Bishops or if we wanted seafood "The Ship" restaurant in Lynnfield. Both of those restaurants were considered excellent back then and was a real treat to go! Don't know what happened to or when the Ship closed down but it was there for many many years, I think since the late 30's...
All good memories! Dan

If anyone is from the Worchester area, there was another place we use to go to before we went to the then Worcester Centrum events, Barbers Crossing had a great prime rib. They are still in business but no longer in Worcester.

Ship officially closed within the last 5 years and was demolished last year. I think a bank & a store(s)is going in in its place

None better!
Have been going to the Village Kitchen for years now on Saturday nights, we always have had the best prime rib there and never leave disappointed. We also like CJ Avery's.
You can have the Woodshed, their Prime Rib is terribly fatty and small portioned, service and the bald general manager, awful! Lyon's Den prime rib marginally better than the Woodshed, why bother? THE VK does it all......right! |

Lawrence/Bishop's/safety
The reason Bishop's seemed a safe place . . . . It was located, back to back, with the police station.
