Not quite sure what the rush is? I just take mine to the local town hall in April, pay the fee and pick up my stickers. It takes all of 10 minutes, plus the people at my local Town Hall are so friendly.
Sending it in early doesn't make boating season come any earlier.

We got one so far. I take them to the marina too. They just make it so easy.

Ill just end up losing it over the next 7 months. I usually do mine 3-4 weeks before putting the boat back in

It makes the most sense for me because my birthday is in April. I just get everything registered all the same day at the town hall.

In the past, the Gilford Island Association has encouraged local registration so the tax money (not the registration fee) goes to Gilford to show support for Glendale. Glendale is the only port that has a police officer on duty all day long to manage the docks and parking lot, and they will accept UPS/FedEx too. Well worth $5.

last year I did at Moultonboro town hall and paid the extra $ 5 . not sure why if they want to encourage they charge extra. This time I will mail it in .

All the towns get a fee. I don't mind supporting my town. I don't know if it's a standard fee.
Meredith gets $5 also. That's one of the reasons I go there rather than mailing it in.

I don't think there is a price difference when I register my car at Town Hall vs. DMV. It all goes through the same DMV computer, right? And I get "free" plates for my car but I have to buy a set of letters from the marina when I get a new boat. I understand an agent's $5 when I register at a marina and they aren't computer connected. I found out this fall that I stand in line at DMV to have my picture taken and pay $50 to renew my driver's license, but the person in front of me, same picture, same clerk, same computer, pays $10 for a five year non-driver ID.

In New Hampshire you can't register your car by going directly to the DMV. You have to start at the City or Town and pay the town fees and taxes. The City permit fee for registration is based on the vehicle model year, the original factory list price of the vehicle, and the expiration date. In addition to the other costs the Town Clerk also charges a $2 fee. This fee covers the general administrative costs of preparing an auto registration permit. The fee is charged for every vehicle registration.

The City's municipal fees for MOS/MILLS on your vehicle registration are the only portions that are tax deductible on Internal Revenue Service Schedules A and B on Form 1040. These line items are a deduction for personal property taxes. The State of NH portion of your registration is not deductible

Years ago I can remember picking up the plates on one occasion because the town did not have any on that particular day.

By registering or renewing your boat with your city or town that city or town is able to retain 100% of the “Boat Fee” portion of the registration, which would otherwise be paid to the State of New Hampshire (RSA 72-A:5)
If you are registering with an authorized boat agent (your town or a boat dealer etc) they can, and usually do, charge a $5 Fee.

The fees you must pay to register your boat with the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles are as follows:

Original and renewal vessel registration (based on the length of your boat):
16 ft or less: $24.
16.1 to 21 ft: $34.
21.1 to 30 ft: $52.
30.1 to 45 ft: $72.
45.1 ft and longer: $92.
Additional registration fees for:
Lake restoration and preservation (all registrations): $9.50.
Fish and Game Department search and rescue fund (all registrations): $1.
Public boat access fund (all registrations): $5.
Vessels using tidal or coastal waters: $2.

It's kind of surprising that the state does pay town, cities, marinas, etc to do this. If you are a business and have to deduct child support, alimony, etc. you get nothing.

True enough, but NH fees are comparable to similar fees in other states. Of course, I have heard people from other states who say "It's
free--the government pays for it."
