I haven't put the feeder out yet. I need to do that this weekend. I keep forgetting. Where's the sticky notes?

At 3:23 pm today while standing at the kitchen window my hummer appeared. Came to about 3 feet from the window and wavered side to side and nodded his head to me.
I immediately put out a feeder.

Previous years, Walmart always had a small, single bird, one hole hummingbird feeder that sold for about 94-cents ...... and it seems to have disappeared from the local stores.

Rand's Hardware in Plymouth has a large inventory of very unusual bird feeders so's maybe they have one?

Made by Pennington, anyone know where there's a 94-cent, one hummingbird at a time, feeder like this, for sale?

The old one disappeared over the winter while hanging from an outside eave, and I suspect it got attacked and carried away by a crow.

When Floridians put out their hummingbird feeders, they'll attract lizards and the Madagascar Gecko. From a Florida website, this picture—through a window screen—is a baby, as adults get up to a foot long:

Lee Huston started this and ran it for years after retiring from owning the gulf station at the corner of 25 and moultonboro neck. unfortunately Lee passed away last year but the store is going strong with a new local owner.

Our 1st hummer on Welch this afternoon, about a week late.

There is more to the story. We have a side deck that until last fall had a very large pine tree at the corner of the deck, lakeside. We always hung the feeder on the leeward side of the tree as we face west. Last fall, as the OP was a witness to, that tree was taken down by Arbor Tech. So this spring we hung the feeder just outside a window on the side deck. While only 10' away, looks like it took a few days for the boys and girls to catch on.

And about feeders. We have a very old feeder with a red bottom and 3 yellow "flowers" each with a perch ring. It is old and grungy. We have several new and better looking (to us) feeders that we have tried. Nope, nothing doing. So the old grungy looking (to us) feeder is back out there.

When I am late putting them out, I'll see one or more come to the area outside under window where the feeder normally hangs, and they will hover back and forth, looking for it.

We have had our first hummer at Whortleberry Island Friday. Looking for the feeder, which wasn’t out yet. Now it is!

This little guy (male) sits on our porch rail almost all day long. When a female comes to feed he chases her to who knows where then returns back to his pine perch to once again pine away for a mate!
Have no idea why this comes out sideways...it’s right side up when I load it...

Put the Hummingbird feeders out last week, Hummers were all around...then yesterday 2 Orioles took over....tried to feed then found the only way to get at the nector was to shake the feeder side to side causing it to leak. Decided to put up a Oriole feeder..should have had a camcorder to tape the show. After hanging upside down under the new feeder trying to peck away at the metal bottom they finally figured out how to use it. Now I have two pairs of Hummers & a pair of Orioles buzzing the tower....fun to watch!!!

A small hummingbird flew inside our screened porch area through a door we had propped open to allow our pups passage. We removed one of the large screen panels to allow it to leave. 🐻

I was seeing hummingbirds constantly until three days ago. The last three days, nothing. I think they may have headed south about a week earlier than normal this year. Anyone else?

Mine is still here. In fact, yesterday he was upset that I let the feeder go almost dry. I filled it up and he was drinking before I got back inside the house.

This morning, two were squabbling over the feeder.

Any time now though.

Not ten minutes after I posted my comment I saw one in the garden flowers. They're definitely not on the feeders like they were three days ago.

A small visitor visited our feeder at dawn this morning on East Bear Island. Yesterday, we watched a pair duel for several minutes near the feeder. 🐻

That’s what I’m finding as well! From dawn to dark its a frenzy! In a few days we’ll be taking the feeders down, I’ll bet.

None at the feeders since last week. They came to the windows to say goodbye and see you next year. One feeder remains as one never knows but the level has remained the same.

Still lots of them at my feeders. I'm always amazed at how much energy they use/waste chasing each other away from the feeders when there are 5-6 ports and plenty of food for all.

On a related tangent, has anyone come up with a good way to keep ants out of your feeders? Mine are hanging from thin stings and the ants still get there. I've tried the water moat on the top, but sun and wind usually take that away quickly. I've also tried bug spray on the string but that only lasts until the next rainstorm.

By mistake, I hung our water moat upside down, and have not seen any ants on the feeder. Also, try coating the "thing stings" [😁] with Vaseline to see if that works. 🐻

I found that the cups above the feeder work well if you keep the cups full of water. I have a large cup and then one is built in at the top of the feeder. I had almost an 'ant-less' season. Of course you have to keep the cups full

Thanks. I try. But living on an Eastern shoreline, we frequently get winds high enough to start the feeders swaying and the water sloshes out.

Have not seen any hummers since last week. A house guest at our place on East Bear Island reported that he saw a hummer at our feeder wearing a flight helmet and goggles, and had a knapsack on its back. It was last seen heading southwest, possibly on its way to Central America. 🐻

Last one seen on Saturday. Now into the 4th day with no visitors in sight. Feeder will be coming in today, clean it, put it away, and bring it out in April. (Used to be Mother's Day).

Also, FWIW, the Vaseline didn't discourage the ants . Smeared it on the iron arm holding the feeder. Black spots floating inside are dead ants, and you can see one crawling on the right petal, and there's one coming down the string.

Nasty stuff, but my husband used Tanglefoot on our shepherd’s hooks. Just need to put it on a place where birds don’t typically land.
