Head towards Alton Bay but before you enter Alton Bay hang a left (easterly) in the direction of Wolfeboro past Roberts Cove. It will be on your right (south shore) near the Barn Door islands.

Default Clay Point

Thanks GTXRIDER, found Clay Point on my chart. You correct, location is just
south of Barndoor Island. Camp Alton is in the same general area.

I'll be exploring the Barndoor and Varney Islands next week, so this will be an interesting Lake estate to check out.

On the subject of the Varney Islands..... I've been boating on "Winni" for years, but never explored these cluster of islands.

Can anyone give me some information as places to anchor and swim,
preferably shallow areas with maybe a shallow sandy area ?
Also, and obstacles I should be aware of. I have a chart, but any personal
information will be appreciated!

Thanks again folks, and have a great day on the Lake !

Default Exploring Varney Islands

I can offer two bits of advice, 1), be VERY careful in this area - there are uncharted rocks, markers are frequently off station, and the apparent travel way is not always the way to go, and 2), all the land is owned, some developed, some not, but all private. The land owners may not be happy about recreational users.

As long as your feet are wet the landowners have no say in the matter !

There is a very nice shallow area near West Alton Marina and is not to far from Clay Point. It is near Sleeper Island. If you come down the western shore between the shore and sleeper you can't miss it! Very sandy and lots of shallow water.

Camp Alton is now the Baher Estate. The docks and seating area between the 2 boat houses was part of Camp Alton.

Default ...The Rocks!

Up the hill behind the Camp Alton canoe dock and unload area for the Uncle Sam ail boat and still there are "The Rocks." These bench seats built into the side of the hill are where Camp Alton assembled every morning and evening from 1937-1992 for their the American Flag ceremony accompanied by a different bugler.

A lot of boats anchor and people swim in the little cove behind Worcester Island. The water is pretty rocky and there really isn't any sandy spots. They just built a house with a large docking system at the back of the cove, so it's not a secluded as it was.
