I have been on a association board before, I know what it takes and how much work it is. If you want something done right or researched correctly you either must do it yourself of pay the management company extra.
I do not want to name names here.
I do however have issues with the contractors in this area.
I know they are hiring illegal aliens paying them below minimum wage.
Half cannot even speak English, so that should tell you something.
I do not have an issue with the hired help, they are trying to make a living.
I am sure they do that have health insurance or any other benefits.
I do have an issue with the big business owners.
Here is a quick calculation:
A crew of three shows up once a week for a year, that is 52 weeks.
A they work 10-hour days, 52*10*3 = 1560 hours.
Lest say they are making $ 10.00-hour (though I highly doubt that) 1560 * 10 = $15600 I will even round it up to $16000
Last checked, we were paying 42K a year for
Snow Plowing
Snow Shoveling/Blowing
Lawn Mowing
Everything else is extra.
If you want new flowers, that is extra
if you want the snow removed from the property, that is extra
If you want mulch or whatever, that is extra.
I will even up the 16 to 20k
42 – 20 = 22k Profit from one property.
If that is not price gouging, what is.

Lets not forget the landscape company has to pay for liability insurance, equipment maintenance, taxes, new equipment etc etc.
