Where they looking to increase cruising speed? Is the new format more fuel efficient and thus cost savings to offset the investment?

That seems like a much needed up grade!!! Those out boards were WAY too small and in the wrong location for that vessel. Jet drive? Not sure how those work on that heavy of a vessel. Will have to keep an eye on it this summer.
427? Is that were it was docked last summer in Paugus Bay? On google maps it looks close to that location.

I am amazed at how much money has been sunk (sorry) in to The Dive.

I know that BOAT means Break Out Another Thousand but it seems that may require a multiplying factor for this vessel.

How much money does this thing rake in?

Look at the construction of the flotation. The outboards were in the only place they would function with that design. They could not be behind the flotation of the vessel as that would block the water flow to the props. Forward would have been poor, reverse would have been useless.

I understand what you are saying about not able to put the propeller deep enough with those O/B but man, they were just bad. It was just a bad choice in my eyes.

Great hindsight. If you read all through, you'll see that Jamie has some professional experience in this field. Do you? I'm amazed at the number of negative posts from people who have no experience or expertise, not just Chachee52. Granted, this is a new vessel and their is little experience.

People can have their opinions. I do. I have never felt like the vessel was properly thought through and designed with the end goal in mind. I'm not saying it doesn't work quite well for the purpose it was built for. But building houseboat/barge type vessels is not new, and there shouldn't have been these huge mistakes made on propulsion. I too understand why the outboards were located where they were, but that doesn't mean the design made sense.

I'm skeptical on the jets too, will be curious to see how this works.

Based on the hull design I don't think an increase in cruising speed was the main plan as the hull plows pretty hard with the flat front and more speed will worsen that. The outboards simply weren't enough to power it in the wind. This hopefully will solve their problems. It had to be a costly undertaking.

Jet propulsion and a diesel engine, sure, but why not add bow thrusters as well?

In my mind, no matter what they use for power and propulsion, it's always going to have lazy steerage and control issues because, given the LOA, they're only swinging one end.

Agree completely! Needs a bow thruster of some sort. Probably hard to install the tube needed for a conventional type thruster though, I'm guessing that's the reason they haven't done so. As a jet boat owner I'd say diesels (or gas inboards) driving the largest props possible would be a better option than a jet drive.

My understanding is they added a thruster at the bow, stern, and midship. I heard this second hand, so might not be accurate.

Wow, that's a little uncalled for. I don't think that anything I said was anything negative toward that business. I don't know where you are getting this from. I simply made a statement that those engines were not the right engines for that boat. I asked someone if they agreed. If you have ever seen that boat go through the water, it had a lot of issues! Never claimed to have a lot of experience in building those kind of boats. Kayaks, sunfish restoration, and I helped build a small runabout but a big vessel like that no. All I was saying, engineering wise if they were on the edges than it would have turned better, I DO understand that the engines that were put on there had a short shaft and that the propeller would have been blocked, I didn't really think of that at the beginning, but again, I ask if some one would agree if they were the wrong engine for that vessel. How is that Negative or ignorant? It would seem to me that that size vessel would need bigger propellers to move it more efficiently. But I could be wrong.
I don't want this to get off topic like EVERY OTHER thread because someone disagrees with someone's opinion. So lets keep it on the topic and move on.

Actually, it's not at the church dock, but on the south side of the camp beach. I saw somewhere that they were there to help Camp Lawrence with transporting people as their boat is out of commission. I did see a MP boat visit last night, and when I left for work this morning, the Dive was still in place .

No doubt a last ditch effort to save the season. At this point I think the Dive has made to many enemies... which is unfortunate, because I actually really like the idea.... Time will tell what they are able to accomplish, this summer....

Who knows with their persistence, maybe they will end up finding someone with commercial waterfront that will work with them....

While the Dive has certainly been a point of contention and mistakes have been made... The owners are nice people and are nothing if not determined to make the business a success. I too wish them success!

The addition of the new diesel thrusters should make getting around the lake a lot easier and certainly quieter. Those poor outboards while plenty powerful, just didn't have the propeller area to move the Dive around.

The newly approved docking area is commercial in that its an older rental cottage community that is not in use currently. The Dive's dock rent helps out with the taxes and other associated costs. Other than the fuel delivery or septic pump out early in the morning, there should be little to no disruption on Weirs Blvd.

Today is Sunday, June 12, about 8:21-am; ok, so where is The Dive? Is it spuds down at their private service dock at 427 Weirs Blvd, Laconia, which is just beyond Christmas Island? No, it is not there?

Since Friday, June 3, about 3-pm, it has been spuds down at this shoreline Camp Lawrence forested spot in this photo, on south Bear Island in Meredith, across from Mark Island.

Their most recent facebook post, on Wednesday June 8, 11:48-am, the morning after the Laconia Planning Board meeting and dock use, 8-1 in-favor vote says:

"Do you want to work in a fun, outdoor environment with an amazing staff? ON a BOAT? The Dive is looking for more cooks to join the Dive Family! At least 2 years experience cooking in a restaurant and a positive team attitude."
