Is there a new restaurant going in to the old Jo greens spot in Wolfeboro? They seem to be doing some major work on the back decks. I have not been there in years so not even sure if Jo greens was still in there.

They changed the name to Schooner Green's maybe a year+ ago? I think did some expansion and a new menu? I haven't been to Wolfeboro since Covid, but Green's was always a favorite.

From a FB post, there are new owners. The work they are doing looks awesome. Large Upper deck is much bigger than the older one. Supposed to open this fall. We could use another waterfront restaurant. Can't wait to go.

Our daughter got married in July up in Tamworth.
Early in 2021, we called literally every restaurant in the area about a cocktail party on Friday night and availability. We called the new owner of Jo greens and he could not have been more impressive. He was thorough and honest and said that he wasn’t sure when they would be opening so therefore he would not encourage us to think of reserving their restaurant. He seemed to have his act together, unlike many local restaurant folks, who seem to fly by the seat of their pants. No offense to the previous owners of that restaurant, but that space has always been under-utilized and poorly run. I really hope that it ends up being a new hotspot. We ended up at Castle in the Clouds and it was a nice cocktail hour and reasonable. |

JoGreene's went out of business before the summer, and the building was bought by at least one local person (and maybe some others in partnership with him). The space which was JoGreene's needed a lot of work, and a local restaurant is going to open another restaurant in that location. Yes, they are doing a lot of work, and for the sake of the first floor, I sure hope the framing structure can support all the new weight. There is an empty storefront for rent facing Main St., and a real estate office and "rethreads" clothing store along the north side.
Over the years JoGreene's had an great many patrons taking advantage of the view from the second floor deck, but an extraordinary number of them were one-time diners. I don't believe the former JoGreene's ever actually opened as Schooner's Greene. |

Regardless, Jo Greens was criminal. Below average food and service with above average pricing. The only reason the Earth didn't open up and send that ish to the bowels of hell it belonged in was the view. I'm hoping the new place hits it out of the park. I'm with Think on this. We were one time diners at Jo Green's--it was unbelievably bad. The worst place we've been in the region.
But a great view! We will give the new guys a try |

Yup, we ate there once and only once. It was terrible. Beer on the deck was nice though

Doesn't matter now, since the apparent change in ownership. No reason to badmouth somebody who is gone. In the meantime, Jo Greens serviced locals year round for many years, so you seasonals are probably missing the point. The decks did well for summer folk, but the off season was what kept the place going. If you're looking for "poofy" (Think's word) this was never it.

So who is the new owner? You say they currently own another restaurant - which one? And when in the fall is it expected to open?

Anyone know what the plans are for opening? The renovations certainly look nice.

The new owners are an investment group who plan on leasing the space out they also purchased the Bayside Grill & Tavern building not business and plan on leasing that location as well.

They're moving from the Kingswood Golf Course to the 51 Mill Street location and opening later this month under a new name: Back Bay Boathouse. Looking forward to going when we get back up to Wolfeboro.

Just last weekend I went through a milk crate of old slides and pictures from the Depot and the Back Bay Boathouse. The slides were mostly of the moving of the old train station in Meredith ('73 I think) up the road to where it became the restaurant. Plus some early drafts of the menu and such. Boathouse pictures from a couple of wild Halloween and NYE parties. There was an apartment above the restaurant. As a kid I remember speaking down to peek at the madness.
