To give a perspective of what the troops landing at Omaha Beach faced: I took this picture about 1/3 of the way to the waterline at low tide - when the landings happened. German positions lined the ridge in the background. I can’t imagine crossing about 300 yards of open beach under withering enemy fire. My thanks to both the living and the dead.
