Hi Friends,
Our anchor got stuck in 20' of water in Smith Cove (Moultonborough Bay). It is marked with a pool noodle at the coordinates below, if anyone is inclined to help us out. I'd really like to get it back as it's a good one! We're up all week and can meet on water or land. Thanks! https://maps.app.goo.gl/QDoXD2pEXQrr76EC8 Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

Seriously, though—7+ years of perfect, one-time sets for that anchor easily makes it a bargain. Besides, if it's caught in a rock—which it almost certainly is—the Digger wouldn't have fared any better? Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

1) Secure the anchor line to the bow. Have everyone on board move to the bow and tie it as tight as possible. Then have everyone move to the stern. If the anchor can be freed at all, this is a good start. 2) From your 20-foot depth, deal out 30-feet of rope. With your boat in reverse, make a big circle around where it's stuck. After a few circles, hand out more rope: repeat until you feel the anchor come free. Note: Both methods work best with conventional boat designs. A PWC would need to experiment. Method #1 works really well with pontoon boats. A Danforth anchor design may bend out of shape in the case of large rocks. (Danforths are a bear to straighten out!) ![]() |

Given it's only 20', I figured it would be better to have the rope intact and find someone to retrieve rather than risk snapping the rope and losing it. I've got a friend who can help, but it might not be until later in the week, so if anyone's free before then...*smile* Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

We could drain the lake and have an anchor harvest!

So it is funny you say this, the wife and I started the discussion this year of what things you would find on the bottom if the lake was drained..... we ask everyone.... answers are always pretty good....
For sure I know of, a pair of prescription glasses in about 30', and ball cap, with several commemorative pins... and of course I can come up with many other things.... With all that said, I forget who it was but someone went diving one time, and came back with like 1/2 dozen anchors one time with in a very short time span...

I was thinking my friend might surface dive it, but it sounds like he might grab a diving buddy—if he ends up getting there first, I'll let y'all know what he finds! Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

I think I found it.
Is this it? If so you'll have to pick it up. |

I knew immediately that this was going to be your post, but then I paused remembering how helpful you were but how little I wanted to drive to the other side of the lake and then I saw the pic and confirmed my initial thought.

Mike Donovan, who is a fishing guide on the lake, saw my post on the Facebook page and took a run out today. It sounds like he was able to dislodge it with his boat. I'm scheduled to pick it up tomorrow!

Dave: it was my Mantus 8# that has been, and will continue to be, absolutely spectacular. Dan can rib me all he wants, but it's absolutely simple with no mechanical parts and sets the first time every time.
ApS: Mike said he had to tug real hard from different directions to get it out. This leads me to believe I could probably have as well if I knew more about the limits of my pontoon's attachments (and was less concerned about snapping the line). Another note: I had emailed Mantus to share that it had held "too well" and they offered to work with me to get it replaced, if necessary, so one more star for Mantus! Mantus makes a great product. We have one of their swivels and one of their snubber chain hooks. We run a 73# Rocna Vulcan that's very similar to a Mantus M2 and we love it. We've spent at least 180 nights on the hook so far, some in 35knot+ wind, and it's been rock solid. Can be a real bear to pull out of the mud though. Often takes me 5 minutes or more of persuasion to get it to break free.
