Painting Cement Patio

In the Spring, I will be painting a small Concrete patio. The patio was painted by the previous owner, so I'm just re-painting to give it a fresh look.

Not sure what type of paint is on there now, but was thinking of using an acrylic latex and want a semi-glossy look.

What are suggestions about painting Concrete ? TIA.....

If you don’t know what’s on it now it will be difficult to determine what to repaint with. There are concrete stains available. My first question would be “what’s it look like now?” Is it peeling up in big chunks? Is it just faded?

Check with Dan and Kate at Middleton, or the most experienced architectural coating specialist wherever you are going to purchase the product.

Generally you will be coating with a deck/floor paint in the semi-gloss specifically formulated to create a low scuff surface to be walked on.

The preparation of the surface will be key to the long term durability.

Surface is not peeling, just faded. It does have a semi-gloss surface.
I'm almost positive it 'is not' a stain surface but paint.

I'm having a painter, repaint kitchen cabinets (now), and will ask his opinion.
I want to paint the patio myself in the Spring.

If it’s not peeling it’s most likely a porch and floor exterior paint. Clean it and paint.

WE had our garage floor diamond shined and I was very surprised at how nice this comes out. It has a design almost like a marble look. It will never peel!

They take a big concrete floor grinder with a diamond blade and go over and over it.

Another option is a 2-part epoxy coating. It will last forever but it is a little more difficult to apply.

If it isn't peeling, they may just have you scuff clean it and repaint with the porch/floor.
It has a high scuff resistance, but not the greatest UV resistance.

If you are asking me that, we didn't use one. The can do a sealant but if they are happy with the results they don't need to do one. You can do colors or lakes and all kinds of things with epoxy if you want.

No sealer is too risky for our shops.
Meredith was done with a chemical hardner that ''densified'' the concrete, and then multiple different grits until the owners were satisfied (could have gone further but chose not to). In the paint aisle you can notice the red pigment in an area of the concrete, someone spilled paint tint prior to the floor getting sealed.

The intent was for the night cleaning crew to do something like wax to build a protective layer. I think he does that with the little zamboni... as under the shelves appears different than the open areas of the floor.

I thought about epoxy for my garage... but a little concerned with any water creating a slip & fall situation.

We did paint the patio pavers; and I have since sealed my walkway with some dry look product from UGL... too soon to tell how well that works.

I recommend Rust-Oleum concrete floor paint.
When I had my concrete patio painted last fall, the guys from Oahu Interior Painting, the local contractor I hired to do the painting, used this product. It's held up well against foot traffic and weather elements.
