Hahahaha! Cash only, here, though that's no longer a good thing for car dealers—to save a couple grand on my wife's Pro-4X, we had to take a loan out and agree to keep it open for at least 5 months. NH law prevents prepay penalties, though, so the finance company can't dictate how much of a balance needs to be carried, so we paid all but $50 off in the first week and totaled something like $3 in finance charges.

Anyhow, the Bronco is awesome and this summer has been great to own it!

I had a scout for years until I could no longer pass inspection due to rust. I still say it's the best SUV made! A close second was the Bronco II until that sadly rotted.

I did a lot of off-roading and the new SUVs cannot hold a candle to the old! The only pickup that was capable of was my old Power Wagon!

I took my daily driver, an allroad on the Bronco course at Gunstock after hours. I had to chuckle. No big deal.

Why do they call them SUVs? Does anyone know what a true SUV is?

I checked with my insurance provider and he suggested either the Outback, allroad, or the V60 CC. They are classified as wagons. The premiums are far less than SUVs and just as capable. Handles a lot better to! Ever tried doing an SUV at speed on a SCCA course?

As I mentioned in the Offroadeo thread, though, you may have done some of the trails at Gunstock, but you absolutely didn't do the advanced ones. I also owned an Allroad, and unless you lifted yours 6", added 35" tires and sway bar disconnects, replaced the independent suspension with solid axles, and had a spotter there's no way you could make it through the rock gardens or steep turnovers. (Audi's Quattro is pretty good, though—other than power and strength, it would be interesting to see how it compares to locking differentials. Still, there's simply not enough clearance, especially with the independent suspension, to get over anything more than, what, 6.5"?)

Also, the "old is better" only applies to machines that have been modernized for comfort or in terms of simplicity vs. complexity.

For example, the stock and built JL Wrangler is as/more capable than any previous SUV when taking into account its computerized systems and drive controls. When comparing older "built" SUVs, there's a simplicity there that can enhance reliability and "feel" for the road, for sure.

What I love about the Bronco is that it'll do 99.9% of what a Wrangler will do and a thousand percent more than what I'll ever do...while driving really well with the top and doors off.

I just bought a Pro 4X Frontier, love it!
I'm thinking about the Pathfinder next year for my wife.
I'm not a Ford fan, even though I think the Bronco looks pretty sweet, I would never buy one!
A buddy of mine has one and never has great things to say about it, but he did buy a cheap version.

The Pro-4X Frontier is a very nice vehicle—the engine and transmission combo is excellent, and it's got just enough room to be useful...for two people. The back seats are not awesome for the kids, which is where the Bronco comes in!

I'm not a "Ford" guy, either. I've never really been a "brand" guy as much as I've been a "model" guy. And the Fords I have owned—Mustang, F-150, Escape—have been excellent vehicles (other than the Escape's rusting wheel wells).

Ford dealers, on the other hand? Best Ford in Nashua has to be the single worst dealership in America. Ira in Manchester = much better. Londonderry Ford = perfect...so far.

I'm a retired mechanic of 50 years and hate working on my own vehicles. So, I try to buy vehicles that I know are low maintenance. This is my first Nissan and I'm pleasantly impressed with it and the dealer I purchased it from, Team Nissan in Manchester.

Totally agree, and I'm only 48.

In terms of low maintenance, my 4Runner was light-years ahead of every other vehicle (20+) I've owned.

We have extended warranties on both our current vehicles and take them to the dealer for service. Peters Nissan charges $130 for synthetic oil change, rotation, vacuum, and car wash. I wish Londonderry Ford would throw in the wash, and everything would be perfect!

I get 4 free oil changes, just got my first one. They only get $39.95 for a synthetic oil change and $44.00 for a tire rotation, very reasonable.

$40 for full synthetic?! That's nuts. The oil alone would be $27 or something at Walmart. Enjoy that while it lasts!
