I used to do a lot of solo hiking in the Whites (mostly spring thru fall). It's a miracle I survived with some of the risks I took. A fall coming down Moosilauke in April broke a finger and almost put me into Beaver brook. Another time a sprain left me with a 4 hour hobble out that should have been 1 hour.
How would you rate Ty's other books?
I like all his books (and his two articles), and would rate them:

1. Where You'll Find Me
2. The Last Traverse
3. Lions of Winter

Enjoy!
