New Ty Gagne/Mount Washington Book

Happy Holidays, All!
Some of y'all know of my love for Ty Gagne's books on hiking, risk, and rescues in the Whites—Where You'll Find Me is in my top X favorite books—so I thought I'd pass on that he has a new release: The Lions of Winter (link below). In one of the first chapters, he makes mention of the main character's youth and family home in Tuftonboro, referring to "Four Corners" and Dow's Corner Shop.
I've only just started (weird note: I was planning on taking it on a cruise in a couple weeks, but it's so darn heavy I'll be taking something else), but I'll share my thoughts on it when done.

The book is just...good.

For Gagne/hiking/rescue fans, it's a good read, but certainly not his best.

The local connection—Tuftonboro, Melvin Village, Wolfeboro, etc.—along with what comes from the story were cool to read about, though.

Hi Think. You caught my eye with this as I'm also a fan of extreme survival, exploration and non-fiction mystery. I'd heard of Ty's books but forgot about them till now. Picked up "Where you'll find me" at the library and started it yesterday.

One of my favorite reads is "Across the Olympic mountains: The Press Expedition". Late 1800's exploration and surveying of this area in Washington State. Lots of first person accounts. Truly amazing what those men accomplished with the tools they had at the time.

Read the "Gentle Mountains" ?

(Partial title of the glacier-worn mountains of Maine, NH, Vermont and New York).

Written during WWII, so there are references to Nazism on the flyleaf.

Finished it last week. Definitely a great read. I was starting to get a little turned off with all the "risk management" interjections but the last few chapters left them out and I felt like I really knew Kate by the end. That said, proper risk management is probably the best equipment one could have.
I used to do a lot of solo hiking in the Whites (mostly spring thru fall). It's a miracle I survived with some of the risks I took. A fall coming down Moosilauke in April broke a finger and almost put me into Beaver brook. Another time a sprain left me with a 4 hour hobble out that should have been 1 hour.
How would you rate Ty's other books?
