It was windy, my sensor lights were turning on just from the wind and snow drifts.
Just feel bad that Gunstock lost a lift during this week. Probably didn't effect them much yesterday, but for the rest of the week. Hope they can get it fixed quickly |

Snow. Cold. Not for me. But I do enjoy watching this video in the comfort and warmth of my home. Hard to believe looking at this that in three months or less we'll be enjoying warm weather, boating and nursing IPAs on the dock...though it could be an extra late ice out this year???
I will say that although I don't enjoy winter weather, I actually was hoping for an extra cold season to hopefully help with fewer cyano blooms this summer. I understand that lack of significant ice has been a contributing factor to more intense blooms in recent years. |

It even blooms under the ice.
Ice Out varies a bit (well, maybe more than a bit), but overall we should have boating season arrive on-time. I suspect we will even see some boats out on April 1st. |

Looks like a nice day to be inside a Bobhouse looking out. Eating some Beef stew, Playing Cribbage and listening to a radio. Lifting the Swedish pimple up off the bottom for a second and you realize you can't budge it. Those were always fun days.

Mon & Tues, Feb 17 & 18, was so windy on Mt Tecumseh the six-seat big chairlift at Waterville Valley was closed all day, both days. Today is Wed, Feb 19, and it should be reopening this morning, I expect.
This week is Massachusetts February school vacation week while next week is New Hampshire February school vacation week. Looking at the weather forecast in this website, it looks that Friday, Feb 21 will be the start of an extended warming trend with higher daytime highs and higher night time lows. Maybe you want to go roof rake the big snow on the roof eaves sometime soon.

Was under the impression the ice cover which reduces sunlight below the ice assisted in reducing the Blue/Green. Hopefully it does somewhat. It will be interesting to see how this summer goes with blooms. If no better or worse than last year we are headed for trouble for sure.

They had a gearbox problem. The part was overnighted and they expect the lift to be operational by Saturday

The wife and I flew into Manchester Monday night from Tampa around 6pm.
Most turbulent approach and landing I've ever experienced. I was amazed we didn't go around for a 2nd try. Pilot jokingly said "you guy's gotta pay extra for that one"

1) In olden times, we had many more T-Bars. Exercise in both directions kept you warm.
2. I remember skiing as a teenager at Gunstock on the 1964 Chair which was mostly close to the ground, so no wind shut downs. Very cold and windy and we were told a -55F wind chill. Best part: no lift lines that day. 3. Anybody else remember buying a book of lift tickets (1 for T, 2 for Try-Me and 3 for the summit IIRC)? You could take a run or two and if you weren't happy, save the rest of the book for another day. |

Those that submitted guesses to the ice out contest can stop worrying about it. That's because, my wife is guaranteed to win. She spent about three hours with a calculator figuring it out a few weeks ago. To her analysis, she applied critical thinking with a healthy dose of calculus and trigonometry. This coupled with quantum mechanics and fully proofed calculations using quantitative atomic analysis and particle spacetime telemetry. Lastly, she bolstered all that by reading pertinent writings of Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawkings and Issac Newton. With all of this, how can she be wrong?
All the while, I was waiting for my dinner. |
