I am surprised not to see any recommendations for painters who will do island work!!
Has this really become an impossible service to find for us islanders! Seems someone could profit from this need not being met! |

I think you are seeing two phenomena here. 1) rightly or wrongly, people are generally reluctant to give up the name of "their guy" when it comes to home services. They figure that potentially makes their own wait longer next time they need the contractor... 2) Others may not have a recommendation to give, having also failed to find someone willing to do island work. The various trades are booked out a year or more on non-island work, so while you might think this would be a profitable need not being met, the painters see they have enough work and don't want the hassle of transferring their equipment and supplies over to a barge (or having a boat of their own) to make their way to an island.

Thanks for the response...totally makes sense...but out there somewhere there have to be contractors painting on the islands with all the homes that have been painted in the past and need maintenance???
Maybe more islanders are DIY painters than I thought...for me at 73 no more extension ladders! Despite more contractor barges on the lake it seems to be harder to get any island services than it was 18 years ago when I bought? Still seems like an untapped market that contractors don't want to take advantage of... |

Tom at Lakeside Property Maintenance is great but does not have a boat. If you can get him there, he can do it. He does all of my work on the mainland. I know he has quoted island jobs on Rattlesnake, not sure if he ended up doing them.
My normal go-to island painter/handyman is in jail presently... |
