Default Patrick's Pub

My daughter and I visited Patrick's last night. I don't often think about it because it's on the other side of the lake and in a strip mall (and I haven't seen anything about it here in years).

Anyway, we had a great dinner. The pulled pork nachos were EXCELLENT and the seafood chowder, mac and cheese, steak tips, and chicken fingers were all very good.

We ate outside upstairs, and the waitress was great—she made sure to let us know that it was ok to continue playing War by bringing us refills after we'd paid the bill. Not a huge gesture, but we often feel rushed even when places aren't busy (which they weren't at the time).

Prices were fine and portions solid (I'd have liked a few more steak tips, but don't think I've ever felt differently at restaurants!).

It's certainly a bar food restaurant, but definitely one of the better ones we've been to this dinner.

Enjoy!

Default consistently good for years...

...you can't go wrong with Patrick's. We've been going there since they opened, maybe 30 years now?? Not fine dining by any stretch, but the food and service are always great. Seafood chowdah for lunch is a go-to for us. Also a lot of fun on a Sunday afternoon when the Pats are playing.

We were there last night also around 7pm, on the outside deck, we had our 3 grandchildren with us at the table just as you come up the stairs.
We hadn't been there in quite some time also. We try to avoid that area during concert season.
We had a great meal there, as always.

Default fish and chips

We are frequent patrons of Patrick's. Went there Tuesday and ordered fish and chips which has always been excellent. This time there was hardly any fish. The portion was the tail section with being very thin. First time this happened.

Default gluten-free

Patrick's has some good gluten-free options which is great if you or your guests have Celiac disease.

My wife and I go to Patrick's at least twice a week. Always good food and you never know who you will meet. Just last night, we sat next to a gentleman by the name of Steve. He was from Savannah GA. He couldn't believe how many people in Patrick's knew each other. Such a great place!

We have been going to Patrick's for years. I kept a boat at Mountain View starting about 1995 so it was an easy trip across the street. The food and drinks have always been good, and the prices are very fair.

I now have a house a short distance up the street and we still go often. We also regularly get take out from Patrick's, especially on concert nights. It is pretty easy to order online and they bring the food out to your car when you call from out in front of the restaurant.

Default Lakesdhore Market

We were headed to Patrick's Friday pm. We called ahead and the wait was more than we wanted (concert night). Lakeshore Market next door has excxellent pre-cooked meals so that was our choice. One spaghetti dinner and one Meatloaf. Both good to feed two people. Excellent quality for $35. No tax, no tip.

They should be taxed, all prepared food in NH is supposed to be taxed. Remember working at Jackson Star back in the day when they had to go through the store and check to make sure everything was. Fruit salad that we made in the back, sandwiches in the deli, and all that stuff had to be taken and remarked.

I'm not sure what the distinction is. I assumed no tax but didn't look at the receipt. My guess is no tax as it was prepared off site,, same as buying a Stouffers Lasagna at trhe supermarket. Without checking the receipt, I'm under the impression that if I buy a bottle of Coke at a grocery store, prepared elsewhwere, consumed elsewhere, no tax. If a server brings me a bottle of Coke, it is taxed as a meal, not a grocery.

I apologize. From watching some of these posts, I thought that they were making the meals, like they do sandwiches.

This post has changed topics but it is thought provoking. What's the difference it I ordered take out from Patrick's or a a ready to eat meal from the Lakeshore Market, what is the difference? Why is one taxed and one is not? Can someone in "the know" explain the law.

Not legal advice.

https://gc.nh.gov/rsa/html/NHTOC/NHTOC-V-78-A.htm

Section 78‑A:3 — Definitions

“Food products” = food or beverages sold for off‑premises consumption which are reasonably and commonly considered groceries (fruits, vegetables, candy, flour, dairy, meat, etc.). The definition specifically excludes “meals.”

“Meal” = any food or beverage (including food products) prepared for human consumption and provided by a restaurant in such form as to be available for immediate consumption without further significant preparation, whether consumed on or off the restaurant premises.

Includes food/beverages sold take‑out / to‑go (packaged or wrapped) from a restaurant.

Excludes (i.e. not a “meal” under this definition) food/beverage wholly packaged off the premises, except for:

Sandwiches of all kinds,

Beverages in unsealed containers,

Catered meals or meals delivered to where they will be eaten.

Also excludes food products provided by a store, or bakery products, when sold in units of six or more.

“Restaurant” = eating or drinking establishment primarily engaged in the business of providing meals for which a charge is made. This includes cafés, diners, food trucks, etc. Also includes restaurant portions within a larger store (like a grocery store that has a deli).

Section 78‑A:6 — Imposition of Tax

The law states that a tax of 8.5% is imposed on taxable meals.

Section 78‑A:6‑c — Exceptions to the Taxed Meals
Certain kinds of meals are not taxable, even if they might meet other parts of the “meal” definition, such as:

Meals provided by nonprofit organizations (religious, charitable) under certain conditions.

Meals provided by educational organizations exempt under federal law (501(c)(3)), under certain constraints.

Meals to inmates or employees in institutions (state, hospitals, nursing homes) in certain settings.

Meals provided under other special programs (seasonal camps, etc.) in specific circumstances.

⚖️ Rules & Interpretations

From NH’s administrative rules (Rev 700) and Department of Revenue guidance:

“Food products” sold in a retail food store are typically not taxed—unless sold in a way that is commonly considered a meal (e.g. a plate, platter, arranged/packaged as a meal).

Prepared, ready‑to‑eat foods (heated or cooled, or not) that are not wholly prepackaged off the premises are often considered taxable.
