We just passed by the old William Tell restaurant in West Alton, and there is a sign that says FRIDA is opening soon. It’s going to be a Mexican restaurant.

But I agree we don’t need another Mexican restaurant we have more than enough now in the area. Dan

Yes, unfortunately, that is the one I had in mind.
I ordered lunch there two summers ago and it was not good: the beef was gristly and I spit out a few bites of it; the beans and rice were blah. I recall having some pretty decent Mexican food a couple years earlier at El Jimador in Belmont.

Mexican food, like pizza and Chinese food, is a personal taste.
One person's yum is another person's yuck. |

We went for lunch there today and I tried the “Fajitas Hawaiinas” based on your recommendation! You are quite correct it was “killer”! Best dish I have had there! Enough on the plate to easily feed two hungry people also! Here’s a pic! Dan

I've spent a lot of time in Mexico. In 2025, was the first time I saw burritos on a menu and they were nothing like the Mission Style I get in San Francisco.

I had a Mexican friend and her food tasted nothing like what we get in the restaurants here.

Well they don't have chop suey...that is an American invention, same as the burrito.

We usually do El Jimador but wanted to branch out this weekend. We tried to hit Casa Lago on Friday and were immediately turned off by the shrieking karaoke that was going on and left. I guess they do it both Fridays and Saturdays. The parking lot was full so someone must be a fan?
We ended up at Frontera in Tilton, it was pretty decent. I would go again. I am happy to see Frida going in, I have heard their place in Epping gets rave reviews. It is VERY close to my house, so that makes it even better! Easy for my teenager to drop us off and pick us up

I can't see a Mexican restaurant doing well in that location. They are a dime a dozen these days. Good luck to the new owners.

Frankly I'm somewhat surprised that an enterprisiing restauranteur hasn't contacted the former owners of the Tell in order to get all the recipes of what was served there and then buy the building and recreate the former menu.
There is CLEAR demand for that, as opposed to what has followed since the Tell closed. *loved their Eggs Benedict*

After enjoying Mexican at Cafe Coyote in Palm Springs, I say the restaurants in the area has a long way to go for decent food. The small 'rita is bigger than our large! Great skinny 'rita! All tequila is Mezcal.

We went to Frida for lunch today. Food and service was very good. A few minor bugs to work out being so new but for the most very good!
I had the Polo Fundido which I thought was excellent! We will return! Dan

We have been to Frida multiple times so far, being that I live 3 minutes away. Every meal has been great.
