Default it's early, but...

I know we have a little bit of time left before Christmas, but I was thinking about offering boating lesson gift certificates for next season. A lot of people are hard to buy for, have everything already, etc. These are unique, affordable, and pretty effective...most of the time they're fun as well! Kids in the family?? They do great with these lessons, and they get to learn with no yelling or stress. They're gonna ask to use the boat someday...might as well be ready for THAT traumatic moment! Why put yourself through the stressful process of teaching family members when I'll do it for you! Send me a message and take that situation off your " things I'm dreading to do list" !

Default it's always a process...

I think I've lost track of the number of loads taken off the island.

We leave a little more, take a little less each year. More stuff duplicated at each location, and more chores postponed at each location--"we'll do that next season."

We say that every year...never happens.

Default Practice

It takes practice. I bought fiberglass cloth and epoxy to fix my sailfish. Put the materials in the paper bag in the tool shed. When I finally got to the job, I immediately put my hands on the materrials knowing they were in the original bag. The receipt was there too...10 years old. You can't learn this stuff all at once. Practice, practice, practice. (Originally bought the sailfish (used) from your neighbor on Mark Is. in the late 70's. Also bought a 26' Lyman and a 30' CC through him.)

Default that's all folks..

Write this date down...11/24/25...earliest date in recorded history that the C-Nile is off the lake. I was informed by the Gilford PD yesterday that boats are not allowed to sit at the Glendale docks overnight. I explained that I've been out here for 20 years and for that time, overnights were allowed after November 1st. The officer told me that rule changed last year so the boat needs to go away! Thankfully, no orange tickets on the windshield! :-)
Til next season...

Well, that was a stupid rule change. At this time of year???? Maybe it would be nice to have a boat there in case there was an emergency. I know you would help out.

Default Glendale Docking Regulations

I know the Town of Gilford is very protective of the Glendale docks and ramp. At this time of year restricting overnight docking doesn't seem that important.

I found this on the Gilford website:

No boat shall be docked at the Glendale Facility between the hours of 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. except upon authorization of a Police Officer for emergency purposes. Any boat found docked at the Glendale Docks during these hours may be ticketed and subject to the penalties for a violation as set forth in these Regulations.

Also this:

4. Docks #3-A & 3-B shall be reserved for boats with a Town of Gilford Island
Resident Decal. Use of these docks shall be limited to twelve (12) hours.

It’s actually not a rule change and has been on the books for as long as I can remember (at least 20 years) They are just enforcing it now and made a point of letting everyone know at the beginning of this year via a Gilford Island Association newsletter about the enforcement….

Oh ok. Still, at this time of year does it matter? I certainly see it in the summer or when a lot of boats are still in the water.

Actually tis, I do understand why they do it. Unfortunately once our enforcement officers leave a lot of abuse occurs not just from non Gilford residents but out of state residents! The repair cost is then dumped on the town tax payers. They had to do something to keep it under control….

The fire boat as well as Marine Patrol boats are always there in case of emergencies so there really is no reason for any open overnight docking.

So even after Nov. 1 you think it would be an issue?

With some things duplication is cost effective enough... but with other things it gets expensive..... I found a good balance I think (or thought)..... most hand tools are duplicated, some frequently used power tools are duplicated.... but bigger items such as tables saws etc. go back and forth....

With that said, something I thought about way back when, which works for mainland folks but not islanders, is to buy a small cargo trailer and outfit it nicely, then simply tow it where it is needed....

I’m guessing he wouldn’t be able to provide a rationale for the rule change since it’s nonsensical.

Question where do I park my boat overnight in Gilford?

Go to Fay's. Fay's is always very helpful with everything.

www.faysboatyard.com, on the other side of Smith Cove from the Gilford town docks is about one mile away, and a five minute walk. With all their empty November docks, they would definitely welcome your boat for an overnight tie-up, no problem ...... piece-of-cake ..... boat parking problem solved ..... gimme a boat space! ..... !

For $250 Fay's could rent out late season vacant dock spaces from Nov 1 to Jan 15, unknown ice-in, make some new boater friends and provide a good service to islanders no longer allowed to dock overnight at Glendale after Oct 31. Docking at Fay's is a much better place to be than at the Glendale town docks because Fay's is a very high class place with sailboats.

How good is that. .....(!)

Hey...when you live on an island, you don't want to make unnecessary mainland trips. Stockpiling 10 gallons of boat gas doesn't make me a bad person, so keep your " holier than thou " judgement to yourself. Oh, you were talking about the boxes.... nevermind.

The old days are gone. St Heleana's is now condo's and the Budweiser plant is closing in 2026.

Pulled one of mine out of storage on Friday! Getting her ready! Last year she was in the water on April 6th. This year….we shall see!

That's exciting! Ponds are starting to look mushy down here.

Lots of ice fisherman out on Saturday here in MA. Cold nights in the forecast coupled with warm days - time will tell how quickly the melting occurs.

I am excited for the season to begin

If you ever need a ride out to your place before your boats in the water, just let me know!

Well, at least something is ready to go! Thanks to KC Marineworks for the quick and efficient service...more people should be using him!!
We are " enjoying" the apparently much needed rains in South Carolina, but hope to finally launch in a week and a half! Late for us, but that's life's!

The boat looks confused as to why it’s still on the trailer!

Don't be too envious... family stuff is gonna keep me off the lake more than I care to be early on.

Last November we had just enough water depth to get the C-Nile into the dock. This spring won't be a problem!

Don't slip, the wet docks can be treacherous. My friend found out the hard way.

I don't think I can ever remember such a lack of boat traffic on a Sunday before Memorial Day, but I don't blame anyone for staying off the lake. It was actually nice to go home and get under a blanket!
