Whenever I go to that Super Wal-Mart I look out at that view and wonder if the person in the cabin on the small knoll in the middle of that valley got a tax break when their view changed. I hope they did, it is such a pretty cabin/location, I can't help but feel sad for them viewing the Wal-Mart 7/24.
I wonder what kind of "moving experience" they had when they saw that walmart go up. |

That looks like the Tuckerbrook Trail that goes up and over to the top of Mittersill, which used to let you ride back up the Mittersill lift on a Cannon ticket. Good two-for tickets @ Cannon!

OK,now you guys are talking about my home!PBG is taking a photo form the rock on Taft.Actually, from the middle of Taft across from the rock.I am on that rock every weekend and just finished building my yearly fort at the Rock last Saturday.FLL,that trail you are looking at is indeed the trail to hike to mittersill but it is known as Taft race course. Why you ask if it goes up hill? One of the first race trails built in the country,it started on top of Cannon and down the present Taft trail, went up over MT Jackson(Mittersill Ski area's MT)and down what is known today as Baron's run on Mittersill.Race trail uphill?Yes.Back then skiing was had a lot of backcountry type terrain.Remember that the bindings allowed the heal to be free like todays randonee setups.Anyway,Tuckerbrook, which I skied last week starts on the other side of the crest of that peak you are looking at.After about 500 ft down you take a left through a narrow entrance in the trees.Tuckerbrook goes off the back side of Cannon and ends up on,of all places,on Tuckerbrook road. which is about 3 miles from the Peabody base area. You must leave a car there or be prepared for a looooooong walk back to the lift.Fll,Mittersill is skied all the time and you can ski right back to Cannon unless you ski too far down.If you do,you'll end up right at my house.Stop by and say hi.PBG,next time you go by the rock, stop by and say hi.I'm the big blonde guy that's shoveling away and I'm almost always there on the weekend.
