Good news, Smith Cove needs the treatment badly. Aside from the obvious unsightliness, I am tired of unwrapping my prop. I hope it works.

Not to mention plugged intake grates on PWCs. I was at my boat at GWC today and they had posted notices not to swim because they had just treated the water.

I just wonder the effectiveness of the treatment - it would seem to make sense that since their is milfoil all over the lake that it would eventually make its way back into that section, floating in, being brought in by other boats, etc...

I have lived on small lakes that were treated successfully, but these are self contained areas...Since Smith Cove is part of the big lake and their is no controllign what comes into the cove...it seems that its money and chemicals wasted.

I could be wrong - and hope it does work - milfoil is just nasty.

It will eventually get back in the cove but it is pretty effective.I was in Langley cove Saturday which was treated last year and didn't see any milfoil at all.It's kind of early to tell if that is a good gauge since it has just begun to grow.

You might ask the folks in Wolfboro because Backbay was treated last year.

The chemical treatment of milfoil in Smith cove will be the last ever. It will not be allowed again. Future remediation will involve hand pulling of the weed. Volunteers will be enlisted and training will be given. I'm sure you must be careful to remove all pieces pulled, or they will just settle to the bottom and root again. Please take the time to remove from the water any pieces you see floating around.

Back Bay was supposed to be treated last year, but wasn't. They were experiencing high water at the treatment time and were going to have a problem with the dilution rates of the herbicide. They opted for hand pulling instead.

Pickerel Cove on Paugus Bay has been trying to have this treatment done for a number of years. DES approved it but Fish and Game shut it down. It is pretty silly to be asking people to carefully check out your boat before you put it in the lake but every fisherman that comes in the cove chews up all the milfoil and drags it from one end of the lake to another.

They are a milfoil horror show in there and the surrounding neighbors are tired of dealing with the daily milfoil that washes up onshore due to the props cutting it and dragging it out into the lake..... Can't they be made to clean it up?

Contact your politicians, if you desire someone to clean up their mess, afterall, the Lake is the property of the state.

From what I have read, the only way to significantly reduce the Milfoil is to use chemicals. Unfortunately, many folks get concerned with chemical treatment despite numerous studies showing them to be safe. Eventually, the problem will get bad enough and chemicals will be used in larger quantities. It reminds me of the environmentalist who hate coal and oil use, but won't budge on nuclear power.

We cleaned up our own marina at Minge Cove and the state I believe? helped with some funds. From what I heard ( and this may be wrong) West Alton was offered the same deal and declined because they didn't want to pay a dime. Ruin the rest of the area/lake to save a few bucks...... Nice....... They need to get on the ball and clean it up. The milfoil coming out of that channel/marina is ridiculous. Take some responsibility for your part of the lake and help clean up the problem!

Did West Alton Marina plant it there? I don't think so...Why make them pay to clean it up? The state needs to get involved and handle this.

Just more milfoil spreading..... everyone needs to contribute and clean it up that uses the marina/owns it as well as the state. Lets all take some personal accountability here and do our part to help out. Only want the state to be responsible for what they claim to be theirs - the Lake, as in the body of water you boat and which contains milfoil.

I live in an area of Winni that is absolutely infested with Milfoil, almost a mono-culture, our small association has asked for help from the state in managing it, we have offered to pay for the treatments/diver/you name it and what we get is the run around with state and local agencies. I laugh at the signs at the Meredith docks that ask boaters to clean the milfoil off their boats before entering the water. Everytime that someone (with a boat, jetski or canoe/kayak) comes into the area, there is more milfoil spread into the lake. I mean 100s of chopped up milfoil that is distributed to the rest of the lake.

Until someone gets serious about this, similiar to what Suncook lakes did, Winni is trouble
