Easy.

Security cameras mean that more security is wanted for Laconia's Bike Week.

Are there Bike Week web cams?

I'm asking for friends who can't make it up this year...

Default Crime statistics

I'm willing to bet that local resident crime statistics (home invasion, robbery, rape, murder) goes down during Bike Week? Anyone got the stats?

Good question....and thank goodness we're still talking about Lil' Ol' New Hampshire here!

The crimes you quote are extremely rare not only during bike week, but year round as well. The typical alcohol induced violations like assaults, disorderly conducts, petty thefts and minor motor vehicle violations skyrocket in the area, but that can be statistically reasoned when coupled with the massive increase in population.

The one disturbing trend that does occur all too frequently are the horrific motorcycle accidents with severe injuries & deaths that spike around Motorcycle Week.

Many associated with the event are predicting a downturn in this years attendance. It will be interesting to see what results that will show when the motor vehicle statistics and arrest logs are examined after the event is over.

May I ask what you base that on? Is there a fact you have to share? What exactly are we trying to "secure"?

Well, here's my very technical survey. More of my neighbors houses are broken into during the early spring/late fall then any other time of the year, including bikeweek!

It'd be nice if these had equaled a lower police presence, but unfortunately that's not been the case so far. I'm just picturing a dark room somewhere with big brother watching us....

Big Brother is "securing" CYA video for the courtroom when they make arrests of combative drunks in Bike Week crowds, my guess.

Default Hey.....close up your house real secure....

and go to the Boothill Saloon. There's this awesome group called powerlock that's there for a few nights. They do covers of 70's 80's and 90's and they're really good.

I heard them last year in Warner up country.

I'd call that a very valid guess, they are strategically located near the bars on one end and vendor tents on the other. I thought the locations we're a little odd (or the camera has wicked good range!).

They increase security a little more each year and I would think the new web cams were because of (a) CYA, as someone already posted; (b) got the money in the budget; and (c) got the technology to use it.

Just like many schools now use them both inside the school and outside the school (like at PMHS), I would think that people just knowing the cameras *might* catch them in the act might help deter crime....

Seems they may need more cams. A vendor was attacked during a robbery attempt on Tuesday night.

Red face Er, um...WE knew that...ahem...

It proves the old adage, "You don't fix crime—you just move it"; in this case, moved crime from daylight to night.

Look for security cameras going up next Bike Week season, with security lights!

The Weirs Channel Cam is usually pointed towards the Blvd (Naswa) during Bike Week.
