Question Dock Builder Recommendations?

Hi !

We just purchased a home on the Lake and are very excited about joining the community! While we love the house; - the dock and boathouse are more than 50 years old and need to be replaced. I am planning to put in a 50 foot dock and rebuild the boat house. I would love to get the paper work done during the winter and start construction in the Spring - so we could use it next summer.
Our problem is finding someone who has a good reputation that isn't back logged with work. Do you have any advice for us?

Newcomers!

PS - I heard there is a person known as "Mason" (think it is his last name) but don't know how to contact him.

Default Dock Builders

I believe there are several threads on this topic already. However, I just want to put in a recommendation for Watermark. They just finished installing a new lift-out dock and perched beach for me. They did a terrific job. They are very responsive and easy to deal with... Mark and his guys were great all the way through from permitting to completion of construction. I highly recommend them.

Default Watermark

We love our Watermark dock. They were awesome with the permitting process too.

Default Where are you?

It's a big lake so it might make a difference where you are on it. I'm in Moultonborough and couldn't get some of the companies to even come out to even talk to me.

I ended up using Lake Region Marine Construction http://www.lakesregionmarine.com/ and would do so again in a heartbeat. Very upstanding and honest guys that stand by their work. They did a 40' tilt up aluminum dock for me. I live on a very windy point and had some issues with the wind moving it the first winter. It took some trial and error to figure out how to reinforce it sufficiently but they kept at and eventually figured it out. They are also the people that did the docks in Meredith a few years ago so it's pretty easy to check out their work. I would highly recommend them.

I,also had a dock from LRMarine Construction....a little unusual because it was a permanent dock that had to be pinned to an outcropping of rock and built around a tree. They adjusted to all of the problems and did a great job.I'd definately use them again

We dealt with Watermark and they were excellent - top quality work and great to deal with. They should also be able to handle all of the permitting for you. I'd ask for Paul Goodwin or "Walker".

Find someone from the start and let them get involved with the paperwork and permits. These people always seem to have an easier time of it than the homeowner. From knowing the process to knowing the officials it must go through.

Watermark certainly cannot be beat as far as quality is concerned, but be prepared to pay for it. They are the priciest on the lake and are in high demand. I would suggest going through the permit process with them or Cynthia Folsom, Folsom Designs and shop the job with the permit in hand.

Depending on the scope of the job you will get a much better price out of Island Support or Diversified Marine and a great looking end product. For comparison sake we were quoted $23k for 2 40' liftouts with a connecting walkway in between and for the same price I got a 3 30' crib docks with connecting walkways and composite decking. A much better setup in my opinion. My beach project was $10k cheaper through Diversified than other quotes I had received and is beautiful.
